Dairy Queen Is Giving Away Free Ice Cream Cones—Here’s How to Grab Yours

It’s been a long winter, but spring is right around the corner. It’s time for the snow to thaw and daffodils to poke up through the soil! I mark this important transition with three significant things: the first sighting of a robin, the start of baseball season and, of course, Free Cone Day at Dairy Queen.
While it’s true that you can enjoy ice cream year-round, Dairy Queen knows that its sweet treats have a special place in our hearts during the warmer months. That’s why DQ wants to treat you to free ice cream to usher in the season.
When is Dairy Queen Free Cone Day?
Free Cone Day 2025 will be on Thursday, March 20, aka the official first day of spring. You can visit any DQ and ask for a free small vanilla soft serve cone with that signature Dairy Queen swirl on top. Just two things to keep in mind: There’s a limit of one cone per customer, and you can’t order using the mobile app.

Why does Dairy Queen do Free Cone Day?
It’s a day of appreciation and thanks for all their loyal treat enthusiasts. The tradition started in 2014 and has happened almost every year on the first day of spring. (It was canceled in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic.) You might want to add this day to your calendar so you never miss out on free ice cream!
