Paying for Costco Groceries Just Got So Much Easier, Thanks to This

As you’re unloading that grocery cart and getting your kids in order, it’s always a hassle to try and dig for your wallet. Especially at a store like Costco, which requires you to grab your money and that membership card at the checkout. Unless you aren’t a Costco member, which you can get away with—here’s how to shop at Costco without a membership.

Costco now has Apple Pay!

According to a Costco announcement on MacRumors, Costco will now offer mobile checkout at all warehouses in the United States. These mobile checkout systems include Apple Pay, Google Wallet and Samsung Pay. Costco has been working to equip warehouses for several months and now provides activated contactless payments at 750 locations. This also includes Costco gas stations.

Costco was originally trialing the technology at a warehouse in Issaquah, Washington, along with a handful of other locations. But the official rollout of this new technology was August 10, which means your local Costco has it right now.

“We’ve added additional mobile payment options to make your next visits more convenient,” Costco said in a statement to MacRumors. “Costco members can now use Apple Pay, Google Wallet and Samsung Pay at U.S. Costco locations.”

You can also tap-to-pay with your credit card.

Along with their new mobile checkout system, Costco also offers a tap-to-pay functionality for Costco Anywhere credit cards. Their Visa-branded card doubles as a Costco membership and gives Costco members 2 percent cash back on purchases both from Costco and Costco.com.

Costco is ramping up their technology.

Using mobile service checkout and tap-to-pay isn’t the only technology new to Costco this year. Earlier in 2018, Costco announced that they are testing food court kiosks at a few locations in California, Arizona, and Washington. Customers can simply choose what they want and pick it up at the counter.
