Chipotle Is Opening Up a New Spinoff Restaurant—Here’s Everything We Know So Far

The eatery will offer healthy customizable bowl options.

If you’re a fan of the classic Chipotle burrito bowl, the newest Chipotle spinoff restaurant may just be your next favorite eatery.

The spinoff eatery, named Farmesa Fresh Eatery, offers a fusion of Chipotle-style bowls along with fresh, healthy options. So whether you’re looking for a new way to incorporate more fruit and vegetables into your diet, or simply want some more Chipotle goodness with a twist, Farmesa has you covered.

Here’s everything we know about the eatery so far.

What Is Farmesa Eatery?

Farmesa Eatery is the chain’s latest spinoff restaurant to launch. Previously, its spinoff restaurants like Asian ShopHouse and Tasty Made have lasted briefly before shutting down. This time, however, Chipotle has a revitalized vision for its newest eatery.

According to an official Chipotle press release, “Farmesa is a fresh, bold concept featuring delicious proteins, greens, grains and vegetables that are inspired by Chipotle’s Food with Integrity standards.”

Plus, according to Brian Niccol, Chairman and CEO of Chipotle, the eatery was created with the idea of developing “a unique restaurant concept that uses classic culinary techniques with flavorful ingredients in a fast-casual setting.”

What Kind of Food Will Farmesa Serve?

Chipotle lovers can expect a menu designed by award-winning chef and director of culinary innovation at Farmesa, Nate Appleman. Appleman is no stranger to testing menu items at Chipotle, as he previously led menu implementations for Chipotle throughout the 2000s.

The curated menu will offer bowls styled after the famous burrito bowls. Each bowl will allow customers to choose one protein, green or grain along with two sides, a topping selection and a selection of up to five sauces.

According to the press release, we can expect to see dishes like:

  • Classic Santa Maria-Style Grilled Tri-Tip Steak
  • Everything Spice-Crusted Ora King Salmon
  • Whipped Potatoes
  • Golden Beets
  • Sprouted Cauliflower
  • Sweet Potato Chips

Additionally, bowl prices will vary from $11.95 to $16.95. Plus, if restaurant goers get thirsty, they can enjoy a range of 100% organic, non-GMO and all-natural beverages.

Where Will Farmesa Fresh Eatery Open?

For now, Farmesa Fresh Eatery is solely located in Santa Monica, California at Kitchen United Mix on Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade in Southern California.

Furthermore, the location will begin with a “soft open with an abbreviated menu and limited hours.” Only takeout or delivery orders will be available during the soft opening. However, the eatery will officially open in March.

Niccols also asserts that the limited menu “will help Chipotle test and learn on future restaurant concepts.”

When Will More Farmesa Locations Open?

Although there are currently no plans in the works to open more Farmesa locations if the chain does well we could be seeing more pop up nationwide. Previously, another Chipotle spinoff restaurant—Asian ShopHouse—expanded to 15 locations nationwide before shutting down in 2017.

And if you don’t live anywhere near Santa Monica, California to indulge in some health bowl goodness, don’t fret! Chipotle currently has around 3,200 locations worldwide with plenty of options to enjoy.
