You Can Now Get a Chicken and Waffles-Flavored Ice Cream at Baskin Robbins—Here’s How

Just when we thought we'd tasted it all, chicken and waffles ice cream has made its way to us.

We’ve tasted some wacky ice cream flavors in the past, but just when we thought we’d tasted it all, one of the most well-loved ice cream brands surprised us. This week Baskin-Robbins announced they’ll be celebrating one of the most magical flavor combinations in history with its newest flavor—chicken and waffles ice cream.

What’s in Baskin-Robbins’ Chicken and Waffles Ice Cream?

Have no fear, vegetarians. Although the name implies meat, the Chick’n & Waffles flavor doesn’t actually contain any meat. Instead, the March flavor of the month is a buttermilk-waffle-flavored ice cream with pieces of crispy “chick’n” and waffle bits. A bourbon-maple syrup ribbon swirls throughout which makes this the ideal treat that’s acceptable for any meal of the day in our books.

“At Baskin-Robbins, we pride ourselves on bringing innovative flavors to market. This flavor is a frozen twist on the iconic brunch dish, recreated in a deliciously deconstructed concept that is unique to our shops,” said Hannah Suits, Director of Brand Marketing for Baskin-Robbins in a recent press release.

Here’s What We Thought

Our Trends Editor, Amrita Thakkar, had a chance to try out the new ice cream. Here are her thoughts: “Lately, everyone seems to want to put savory flavors in their ice cream. Remember last year’s onion-flavored ice cream? Glad I didn’t have to try that one. Suffice it to say, I was not looking forward to chicken and waffles-flavored ice cream… but I was pleasantly surprised.

The ice cream was a little bit melted when I got it but smelled delicious. After popping it in the freezer, I took it out the next day to try it and it tasted just as good as it smelled! I didn’t get a lot of the buttermilk waffle taste, but it was pleasantly mapley, with a little bit of a smoky undertone that just added to the deliciousness. I had to dig to find a piece of the ‘Chick’n,’ which was pretty frozen—it tasted mildly savory but didn’t deliver a big dose of fried chicken. Honestly, I’m not mad about that—and I’ll definitely be adding a dollop of this to my waffles this weekend.”

Where Can I Get It?

If you’re curious to get a taste of the latest surprising ice cream flavor, and you live in New York City, you’re in for a real treat. On March 7, Baskin-Robbins is holding a one-of-a-kind bottomless brunch at its 1225 1st Ave. location in Lenox Hill. From 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., lucky patrons will get a limited-edition scoop cup and a wristband that entitles them to unlimited scoops of Chick’n & Waffles ice cream during the brunch while supplies last. Baskin-Robbins encourages those interested in brunching on the new ice cream to arrive early.

If you don’t plan on attending the Baskin-Robbins brunch, you’ll find the Chick’n & Waffles flavor at your local scoop shop starting on March 1. You could even take it home to enjoy atop homemade buttermilk waffles for a truly special dessert experience.
