You May Be Able to Change the Height of Your Dishwasher Racks
Take clean dishes to a whole new level (literally) by adjusting your dishwasher racks.
You spent all day cooking a batch of chili for the whole family and the last thing you want to do is spend hours scrubbing the pot. So you go to put it in the dishwasher…but it won’t fit. Ugh! This is a sad reality for many of us dishwasher users—why can’t we just put everything in there?! But it turns out there’s some good news: You can adjust the height of your dishwasher racks!
Who can we thank?
We have an Irish man to thank for the discovery. Mike McLoughlin recently took Twitter by storm when he tweeted about a life-changing realization. After washing his plates by hand for 10 years because they were too tall for his bottom rack, he found out he could actually raise his upper dishwasher racks…and never wash another dish again. Rightfully so, people responded with overwhelming gratitude (because who doesn’t want to make cleaning easier?!).
How to change up your dishwasher yourself
It’s so easy to do, you can do it yourself in just a few minutes. A lot of major dishwasher brands (Whirlpool, Bosch, Samsung and Thermidor, for example) have even put out videos showing you how to do it. The best part is that you don’t even need any tools. All you have to do is grab the adjustment handles (located on the left and right sides of the rack) and pull upwards gently. It should automatically latch into position after you have raised it.
Once you make the adjustments, according to one brand’s website, your bottom rack will be able to fit dishes that are up to 12 inches tall. Not only is it a great solution for enabling you to wash larger dishes in your dishwasher, it will also prevent things from getting damaged from being shoved into a too short rack.
The next time you labor for hours in the kitchen, take peace knowing that the clean up will be a cinch. After all, your dishwasher racks are now the right height meaning you can simply rinse off those pots and pans, stick them in and let the dishwasher do the work. Weeknight dinners just got so much easier.
