Oreo has developed some pretty gimmicky flavors in the past, but this one might take the crown. Not too long after the release of Carrot Cake Oreos, the brand has a savory flavor in the works. It turns out buttered popcorn Oreos are coming, and we’re just as confused as you are.
Is This Really Happening?
Yes—at least according to an Instagram post from The Junk Food Aisle. The account isn’t usually wrong when it comes to revealing new snack foods. “I got to try one of these last month without being told what flavor it was, and I would have put all my money on it being “Pineapple” after just licking the creme,” the post says. “Eating it in its natural sandwich cookie state though and it becomes everyone’s least favorite Jelly Belly (but better!)”

Coming Soon! Buttered Popcorn Oreo! 🍿 Weird but true: I got to try one of these last month without being told what flavor it was, and I would have put all my money on it being “Pineapple” after just licking the creme. Eating it in its natural sandwich cookie state though and it becomes everyone’s least favorite Jelly Belly (but better!) “Everyone’s least favorite Jelly Belly” doesn’t sound like an Oreo flavor I’ll be rushing out to buy. In fact, it brings to mind the “Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans” that are inspired by Harry Potter and include flavors like earwax in addition to the normal ones.
Feeling adventurous? Try one of the new Oreo flavors in these potluck Oreo desserts.
When Will the Buttered Popcorn Oreos Be Available?
If you’re brave enough to try them, The Junk Food Aisle says that they’ll be coming sometime in 2019. But if you’re more of a traditionalist, and buttered popcorn, hot chicken wing and the Firework Oreo don’t appeal to you, that’s okay, too. There’s always the original Oreo flavor. With all of that chocolate and creme goodness, why mess with a classic?
