Brach’s Just Released a Tailgate Candy Corn Mix with Hot Dog and Hamburger Flavors

I did not expect a century-old candy company to start running in the same wacky flavor circles as Jones Soda and Jelly Belly jelly beans, but here we are! The company is now selling Brach’s Tailgate candy corn, which has five flavors you might see at a football tailgate party, but have probably never tasted in candy corn form before.

I should’ve seen it coming. Back in the fall, I reviewed Brach’s Turkey Dinner candy corn mix, which included candy corn flavors such as green bean, stuffing and roast turkey. Now I need to try the hot dog candy corn.

What Are the Flavors of Brach’s Tailgate Candy Corn?

The five flavors are all over the map. Each bag has fruit punch, vanilla ice cream, popcorn, hamburger and hot dog candy corn.

Not sure who has fruit punch at a tailgate party, but I guess Brach’s didn’t want to make beer-flavored candy.

Vanilla ice cream? Again, I’ve never seen that at a tailgate party, but whatever. I mean, ice cream melts! Tailgate food needs to be able to sit in a parking lot for hours.

Hamburger and hot dog are probably the two flavors that make the most sense with a tailgate theme are also the main reason people will buy this mix—for the sheer “I double-dog-dare you to try this” element.

What Does Brach’s Tailgate Candy Corn Taste Like?

Here’s a warning: You don’t just want to grab a handful of this candy corn mix and start chomping. The vanilla ice cream, fruit punch and popcorn flavors are fine, but you won’t want to be surprised with a bite of the hot dog and hamburger flavors.

The fruit punch candy corn is sweet and fruity; it tastes a bit like tropical punch Kool-Aid powder. The popcorn flavor isn’t as tasty as the Jelly Belly jelly bean version because it’s dominated by a fake butter taste. The vanilla ice cream was my favorite of the five—so sweet and rich that I immediately popped another one!

But the hamburger and hot dog flavors…blech! I spit out each one into a napkin after taking a bite and chewing. They did not taste like anything that should be in my mouth. Not only did they both taste of meat, but they kind of tasted like meat that had gone bad. You have to try it once—but only once.

Where Can I Find the Tailgate Candy Corn?

Currently, the new candy corn is available online at Walgreens for $3.49. If you want to go get it in person, you can use Walgreen’s product locator to find out if it’s available at your local store.

But be careful: I’d suggest you call your store first. When I used it, I went to a store that claimed to have it, but didn’t, and managers were unsure if it had already arrived and sold out, or was yet to come. Then I called another store that supposedly had it in stock, and same deal—they didn’t have it, despite what their website said.

So my suggestion is to keep checking your local Walgreen’s candy aisle if you don’t want to pay for shipping. It’s not quite tailgate season yet, and this goofy mix will show up eventually!
