If you’ve kept up with cleaning trends over the last few years, you’ve likely heard about the famed Bissell Steam Shot. After all, its promises are appealing. It purports to melt away stains, scum and stubborn bacteria in even the most tough-to-reach places sans chemicals. Say less! We tried this miracle cleaning machine back in 2023. It immediately blew us away with its performance on toilets, sinks and even our washer and dryer.
Unfortunately, in July 2024, Bissell recalled more than three million of its Steam Shot handheld steam cleaners, citing a potential burn hazard with the design. Since then, we’ve eagerly searched for a comparable replacement with little luck. That is, until Bissell’s recent release of the Bissell Steam Shot OmniReach, a new and improved version of the old favorite. The Bissell Steam Shot is back, baby—but how does it differ from the original model?
What is the Bissell Steam Shot OmniReach?
Like the original Steam Shot, the Bissell Steam Shot OmniReach offers an impressive 1,000 watts of pressurized steam. This steam shoots out of the front nozzle with a simple squeeze of the steam trigger, making the new and improved Steam Shot just as user-friendly as before. Simply fill the reservoir with water, allow it to heat up, and point it at the offending grime. The high-powered steam jet melts off even the most stubborn stains within minutes. Plus, it claims to eliminate up to 99.9% of germs and bacteria. We’ll take that during cold and flu season!
With a fleet of 10 different cleaning brushes and nozzles, the improved Bissell OmniReach cleans every nook and cranny, revealing hidden dirt in places we didn’t even know existed. But it’s not just for tile—the included machine-washable fabric steamer de-wrinkles and refreshes clothing and upholstery. Additionally, three color-coded brushes make cleaning different rooms a breeze.
Like the older model, the OmniReach also includes myriad attachments like a long nozzle used for sanitizing nooks and crannies, a flat scraping tool, a grout brush, a window squeegee, an angle concentrator and an extension hose.
The Bissell Steam Shot OmniReach also incorporates two new safety features, including pressure and steam readiness indicators, which minimize the risk of accidental burns.

How We Test Bissell Products
Here at Taste of Home, we’re some of Bissell’s biggest fans. In our original Bissell Steam Shot review, Editor Madi Koetting used the product in her home for a full year, noting that it’s her secret weapon for sanitizing seriously grimy surfaces and cleaning grout. “Sure, going in with a sponge and chemical cleaner will also work. But with the Bissell Steam Shot, my hands stay far away from the mess while accomplishing more than just getting the surface looking brand new—it sanitizes the entire area without chemicals,” she notes.
But the Steam Shot isn’t the only Bissell product we love. Other machines we’ve tested include the Little Green Machine, which lifts up set-in stains on carpet and upholstery and the Bissell CrossWave, which was our favorite power mop in our article on the best-tested mops. We’ve also had great success with the Revolution HydroSteam Pet, the SpinWave, the PowerForce Helix, the Pet Hair Eraser and the Bissell CrossWave Max, one of our favorite vacuum mops. Overall, we find Bissell makes quality cleaning products that offer a good bang for your buck.
