Cookware is the most important tool a home chef can invest in. The right pan makes scrambling eggs, sauteing veggies and searing steak a breeze. But the wrong pan? Well, let’s just hope you have a good dish brush.

Since cookware is such an integral addition to the kitchen, we spend a lot of time reviewing it here at Taste of Home. In 2024 alone, we performed dozens of tests, collected thousands of data points and tried over 30 brands. From stainless steel to ceramic, we spent hundreds of hours ensuring gear lives up to the hype.

At the top of our list is the HexClad hybrid skillet—which we’re officially crowning the best cookware of 2024. Here’s what you need to know about this trendy pan.

What is the HexClad hybrid skillet?

HexClad markets itself as a 3-in-1 cookware option that blends stainless steel performance, cast iron durability and nonstick convenience. It’s received praise from many professional chefs, including Gordon Ramsay.

A HexClad skillet checks many boxes: It’s oven—and dishwasher-safe, suitable for use on any cooktop type and comes with a lifetime warranty. The pan’s construction is solid, blending aluminum, stainless steel and a ceramic nonstick coating free from PTFE and forever chemicals. HexClad packaging is sleek and sexy, to boot. On the surface, there’s a lot to love about these pans. But how do they perform?

How We Tested It

Hexclad Hybrid Nonstick Frying PanAnnamarie Higley for Taste of Home

To date, five Taste of Home staffers have fallen in love with HexClad cookware, including our Product Testing Manager and a former professional chef. Admittedly, I am the biggest fan—and, at this point, a HexClad expert. I’ve tested almost everything the brand offers, including skillets, a wok, a Dutch oven, a knife set and a pizza steel.

I’ve been using most of these pieces in my home kitchen for over a year. While HexClad gifted some pieces for testing purposes, I also bought a 7-piece set to replace my existing cookware—it’s that good. After daily use, these pans still look good and perform as well as they did on day one. To test, I’ve completed just about every cooking task imaginable: searing tofu, wilting greens, scrambling eggs, boiling water, sauteing veggies, browning gnocchi, simmering sauces, caramelizing onions, toasting buns, baking bread—you name it, I’ve done it in a HexClad pan.

I love that this cookware doesn’t need to be babied. I’ve used metal utensils and high heat with zero issues. I’ve even beaten mashed potatoes with a hand mixer directly in the Dutch oven without scratching.

That said, HexClad pans aren’t quite perfect. (No cookware is!) While the coating is nonstick, you do still need to use butter or oil. And delicate proteins (like eggs) occasionally stick. The pans are also on the heavier side but still not as cumbersome as cast iron.
