Nope, an ice cream sundae in a can was not on my 2025 bingo card.

A&W Just Revealed an Ice Cream-Flavored Soda, and It’s Pure Nostalgia

If you love root beer like I do, then you understand when I say I can knock back an entire can of A&W on the spot. There’s nothing that makes a hot day more enjoyable than an ice-cold can of root beer, except, of course, root beer with a scoop of ice cream for a root beer float.
A&W decided to cut out the middleman—its root beer—and go straight to an ice cream-inspired soda. Enter: A&W Ice Cream Sundae. It will be like a liquid dessert, and I have to tell you about it.
What is A&W Ice Cream Sundae soda?
It’s literally an ice cream sundae in soda form. It combines the flavors of vanilla ice cream and chocolate fudge with the fizz of a cold pop. I am beyond curious about this tasty flavor! I want A&W Ice Cream Sundae soda to capture the exact feeling of enjoying an ice cream sundae as a kid. Honestly, I want to be transported back to simpler times. (Like when the original Slice was a thing.)

This delectable concoction is part of a 2025 lineup that also includes 7Up Tropical and Dr Pepper Blackberry. I can’t wait to pour an A&W Ice Cream Sundae into a frosty mug, so I will be at the store the second this soda is at the grocery store.
When will the flavor drop?
This delightful addition to the A&W lineup will drop in August 2025. You’ll be able to grab cans of A&W Ice Cream Sundae in both regular and zero-sugar in 12-packs while supplies last. This flavor isn’t permanent—at least not yet—so pick up a case when you see it!
