4 Important Things to Know About Oprah’s New Food Line
Oprah has a new food line! You won't believe the surprising twist that makes it healthy.
If you’re a fan of Oprah Winfrey on social media, you know she’s into healthy eating. She posts pictures with a basket full from gardening, washes massive amounts of kale and makes time in her busy schedule to eat with friends and family. This passion for enjoying a satisfying meal while seeking out nutritious options led to her newest business venture: food. That’s right, Oprah Winfrey is selling soups and more!
The new line, aptly titled “O, That’s Good!,” is a project between Oprah and Kraft Heinz. Hungry yet? Here’s what you need to know.
1. It’s healthy.
Even though Kraft Heinz is the parent company of indulgent favorites like Oscar Mayer, Velveeta, Kool-Aid and Cool Whip, it’s hoping the new line can convince consumers that packaged foods can be good for you. (Because certain foods really, really aren’t.) For Winfrey, a women’s lifestyle mogul and Weight Watchers spokeswoman, it was important to promote healthy eating.
The line offers comfort foods with added vegetables, following the trend of replacing heavy carbs with lighter vegetables. (Ever heard of zoodles?) For example, the mashed potatoes have mashed cauliflower mixed in. Butternut squash replaces some of the cheese in the broccoli cheddar soup. The Parmesan pasta includes white beans in disguise. The result, according to Winfrey, is “real, delicious food with a twist.”
In addition, the soups and side dishes contain no artificial ingredients. The result is a dish perfect for anyone who’s trying to eat healthy without sacrificing rich taste. Kind of like these light pasta recipes with big flavor.
2. It’s going to be everywhere soon.
The line launched in early August but will be available in supermarkets nationwide by October. There are eight products, including mashed potatoes, cheesy pasta dishes and thick soups. You can find them in the refrigerated section.
Oprah isn’t the only celebrity launching new products, though. Click here to check out Prince Harry’s latest deal: gummy candies shaped in his likeness!
3. It’s not cheap.
With each soup or side dish selling for around $5, Oprah’s new line isn’t the most budget-friendly product on the block. For us, getting a whole meal for $5 would be a bargain. (Better yet, learn how to feed your family on less than $2 per serving.) We might just save her garlic mashed potatoes for an occasional treat.
4. But, you are feeding the hungry.
In true Oprah fashion, this product line also does some good. Each purchase benefits hunger-relief organizations like Rise Against Hunger and Feeding America. We think that this charitable aspect gives some cause for a steeper price tag.
We might not be buying Oprah’s new sides every night, but we’re certainly excited to give them a try. After all, there’s nothing better than healthy, heartwarming comfort food.
