Summer grilling is ideal for simple meals for your family or fun evenings entertaining friends. It's also a great way to beat the heat by staying out of the kitchen! These appetizer recipes are ready in about 30 minutes or less and make the perfect partners to your grilled main dishes.
If you love satisfying snacks that are easy to make, try Creamy Caramel Dip, which Karen Laubman of Spruce Grove, Alberta created by modifying a friend's recipe. "We sure appreciate this cool, light treat in the summertime," says Karen.
After Nancy Cutright tried California Fresh Fruit Dip at a potluck lunch in her hometown of San Jose, California, she loved it. "I think it represents my region because of the abundance of fresh fruit grown in California," says Nancy. "My family especially enjoys it as a refreshing snack on hot summer afternoons."
"I added green pepper to a recipe I got years ago from a friend," says Jane Bone of Cape Coral, Florida. "I prepare Toasted Zucchini Snacks for company when zucchini is plentiful. Everyone seems to enjoy it—even those who say they don't care for zucchini."
Kim Gammill of Raymondville, Texas came up with Fried Shoestring Carrots as an alternative to french fries. "We like to serve them hot with ranch-style dressing as a dipping sauce," she says.
"My family and I enjoy eating White Bean Dip with tortilla chips, crackers and just about anything else we can find to dip into it—including our fingers!" says Linn Landry of Honeydew, California.
It's easy to keep the ingredients for Chocolate Caramel Fondue on hand in case unexpected company drops by. Cheryl Arnold of Lake Zurich, Illinois serves the thick, rich sauce in punch cups, so guests can carry it on a dessert plate alongside their choice of fruit, pretzels and other dippers.
