  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon grated orange peel
  • 3-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ICING:
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon McCormick® Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons milk


  • In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add
  • egg, molasses, water and orange peel; mix well. Combine flour,
  • baking soda, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg; gradually add to creamed
  • mixture, beating well after each addition. Cover and chill at least
  • 2 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 375°. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to
  • 1/8-in. thickness. Cut into stars or desired shapes and place on

  • ungreased baking sheets. Bake 6-8 minutes or until edges are lightly

  • For icing, combine sugar, vanilla and enough milk to achieve a
