These cookies were the treat we would enjoy when we traveled on family shopping trips to Ft. Worth many years ago. My sister, Carrie, always made them and put them in a foil-covered shoe box. By the time we got to Ft. Worth, they were all gone! Now my daughter makes these cookies for me, and at the age of 90, I still think they are the greatest treat.

I was drawn to this recipe because of it's unique washboard title, and look! Usually a cookie that looks like this is a peanut butter cookie. With my husband's allergy to peanuts, I was excited to see a cookie that looks similar to one of my childhood favorites, but with no peanut butter! I did add a little bit of powdered ginger to the flour mixture. It really gave these cookies a fun kick! I will make these again for my family!

Didn't have dark brown sugar, so i used light and rolled the ball in cinnamon and sugar and then pressed down on pan. They turned out delicious! Only thing is, I got 26 cookies out of my batch... not 42. But they were nice size and very good!
