"Sounds good and easy"
"Worst ever cake out like a sugary runny mess and wasted confectioners sugar. Will not make again"
"Great base recipe, but like others said, the powdered sugar flavor is WAY too strong. I added more vanilla, about twice the recommended amount. I also added much more butter, about 4tbspns. Those two things really helped scale back the overpowering sugar taste, and made it a great frosting. With those changes, it's now my go-to frosting and I've gotten loads of compliments."
"It was my first time making actual homemade frosting, and it was really good for a start."
"it turned out like a sugary glob!"
"The recipe is right. Except one major part. Do not dump it in all at once. Slowly add the sugar about 1/2-1 cup at a time. Every other time add a drizzle of milk or flavored creamer a small drizzle at time. Add the vanilla on the last beat. This helps incorporate the sugar so you don't have a mouth full of confectioners sugar. Iv bee making frosting for years and I have found this way to be time consuming but so worth it."
"we didnt have enough regular sugar so we added maple sugar best mistake ever :D"
"Easy to make but tasted way too much of confectioners sugar. Not something I would use again."
"Nice n easy."
"Very easy to make , works great if you need a white palate to decorate on. I add a little more vanilla just because I like it. Love it on cupcakes!"
"very good frosting but the powdered sugar is a dominating taste to the vanilla but overall very good, if it is to thick try putting two more tablespoons of milk in and it should loosen um"
"I made this recipe last night and it turned out delicious. I read some previous reviews and added 1 tablespoon of vanilla to a double batch. I will definitely be making this again!"
"Although mine tasted a bit like confectioners sugar, and I don't own a mixer (yet), this is very nice. I added extra vanilla for more flavor."
"This is amazing. I used 1/2 s tablespoon of vanilla though. Added a stronger flavour. Otherwise this is one of the best recipes I've ran into. Than you for sharing! :)"
"Oh my GOSH! This frosting is the bomb dot com! Can't wait to use it on my mom's birthday cake!"
"This tastes like pure sugar, I can't imagine covering a cake with it."
"why the heck would you put icing on BREAD !?!?!?!?!?!?!!?"
"Perfect with the pumpkin chocolate chip cupcakes I made!"
"This was so easy, and just enough to frost my fabulous banana cake!"
"This is very delicious"
"This icing was repulsive. I've been a baker for about 35 years now, and decided to try out this website. This icing tastes like pure sugar. My baby even hated it. She threw it at my braces.FINITO..... My dermatologist actually recommended to use icings as facials to remove sun spots and pimples...so i ended up using this for a facial! it actually worked great and i definitely recommend this for that, as for the taste... a disappointment for me and my fetus."
"For those that had problems with this recipe. When you are adding powdered sugar to any recipe (even flour) you should add slowly only adding more when it is incorporated. Add only part of the milk with each addition of sugar. If it gets too thick add more milk at a rate of 1/8 teaspoon at a time. If you need thicker icing/frosting for decoration then make the mixture thicker. This is a basic recipe for more buttercream icing/frosting."
"The worst. I recomend not using this I am pist off becuase I now have 3 min to get a new recipe do not use this it's not frosting"
"I totaly screwed up the megerments and it still worked!!!!"
"It's great for the family cakes and cupcakes"
"this tasted really good just right amount of everything"
"BEWARE AT YOU OWN RISK IF YOU WANT TO MAKE A MESS- i was making chocolate cupcakes and didnt have frost so i decided that this recipe would be easy! haha ya right i put everything (exactly) in the bowl and turn on the mixer all of the sugar was going everywhere so i said well i give it another try with a taller bowl and nope that didnt help at all!!! but i still gave it a chance and still started to mix it after about 10 seconds the sugar stoped flying everywhere and it was started to turn into frosting i was finally pleased that this was working but after i mix it i notice that it wasnt getting fluffy all it look like was thick liquid so i tried to mix it again but still it would get fluffy i tasted it and huck!!! all it tasted like was sugar!! i threw it into the sink and i guess my cupcakes wont have any frosting!! all i got from this frosting was a sink full of dishes, sugar EVERYWHERE on the floors and counters, and a mess in the kitchen uggg!!"
"This was quick to make and very delicious! absolutely love this and so does my family!"
"Better than store."
"Just reading the ingredients tells me there is too much liquid for the amount of sugar."
"This is excellent frosting, and easy to make.Glad to see i'm not the only one who makes my own...it also works great with graham crackers..spread a bit between two graham crackers, pop them in the freezer..makes a quick easy snack!"
"It was pretty runny."
"I was so excited to find a recipe that didn't call for so much butter! I doubled the recipe and used the frosting on my cupcakes. It's easy to make, which is great. BUT! The frosting hardened overnight. It's still edible and it's not crunchy when you bite into it, but I would hate for other people to be turned off from my cupcakes because of the sight of the frosting. I stuck handmade chocolate snowflakes on top of the cupcake, so the plus side is that it kept everything in place!"
"Do not let a discouraging comment keep you from trying a new recipe because you will miss out! I followed the recipe exactly and it was thick. Here is what I done to make it better. I used: *16oz (1 LB) 10X Powered Sugar * 5 tablespoons butter *3 tablespoons and 1/2 tsp milk * 1/2 teaspoon + another 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract because the original is just to thick to even spread across the cake. It's a very excellent recipe I love it!"
"this tasted good but the consistency wasnt great. to keep adding sugar would have ruined flavor. good for baking nite with the kids but not if u want to hold firm."
"add 1/2 cup of butter (1 stick) and then the recipe is perfect. i put it in the freezer for about 5-10 mins so it thickens and then beat it on high for 1 min"
"This frosting turned out looking and tasting like cat puke. it was so thin that you could easily mistake it for a drink. In fact, when trying to dispose of it, we couldn"t figure out whether to throw it in the trash or rinse it down the sink. I would not recommend this recipe, I am a very experienced baker and followed the directions correctly but it turned out to be a waste of ingredients."
"First time making icing. Very easy and yummy!"
"Basically this the buttercream frosting that my mother taught me 50 years ago and it is still my families favorite."
"Add a little more butter-more calories, yes, but less sweet and even creamier."
