Reviews for Vanilla French Toast
"Delicious and simple! Only thing I mixed up was using skim milk instead of 2%. My young daughters are picky eaters and were hesitant to try it, so I cut it into french toast sticks and they gobbled it right up. Will definitely be making this one again!!!"
"Simple and easily adaptable to a larger family. I used vanilla almond milk in lieu of regular milk in order to get a more vanilla flavor. I also used a chocolate chip bread for fun and my kids loved it. Each ate at least 2 slices and my 2 year old labelled it Super Awesome and cleaned his plate. Love an easy meal where no one complains. A keeper!"
"I've been using vanilla extract for years, but try maple along with the vanilla extract. I did this when my daughter was small and we had to leave early, she could have her french toast in the car with no mess. I made bunches and just froze them, worked well just dropping them into the toaster. Also, I've been using Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Bean Paste recently and it is an improvement over the extract. Enjoy!"
"Loved the flavor the vanilla gives it."
"Delicious. Used a tad less sugar, but doubled the vanilla extract. Try almond extract sometime!"
"" I added evaporated milk instead of regular milk and added cinnamon sugar instead of white sugar" It was to die for!! ;)"
"I followed the recipe and added a bit of cinnamon to the batter. Very easy to make."
"This is the french toast of my childhood! So that means it was perfect in every way. Simple to make and oh so satisfying. Change nothing and you will have a "happy meal"."
"A really easy and delicious French toast recipe. I used brioche and skim milk. I would have used egg substitute, but my daughter wouldn't let me!"
"First try...too soggysecond attempt, much better results, presentation was appealing.Teenage grandson devoured itEnough said.Mahalo nui Loa"
"Very good simple recipe. I didn't add the sugar though since we use syrup on our french toast."
"Have always used vanilla and cinnamon. Try using sourdough bread for a sweet/sour experience. Also add coarsely ground walnuts to top, tamped down on bread, when placed on griddle, to add protein."
"My 16 year old doubled the recipe and added cinnamon, his brothers agree "best french toast!" There is a reason why this recipe is a 5 star breakfast staple. Enjoy adding your own flavors to this wonderfully simple french toast."
"I added a little coconut to the mixture and, "voila" ,,,,yummy!!!"
"My husband usually doesn't care for French toast but liked this recipe. I was only able to get 4 pieces of toast so will double mixture next time."
"Quick and easy. Nothing fancy, but it does have good flavor!"
"I made these today for breakfast. I substituted the milk for heavy cream. They turned out delicious!! What an easy recipe. The whole family loved them! Next time I make them I will definitely try the suggestions posted in the reviews."
"THIS TIME OF THE YEAR I LIKE TO USE EGGNOG AS THE BASE ADD A COUPLE SCRAMBLED EGGS, A SPLASH OF VANILLA AND SOME CINNAMON. I USE TEXAS TOAST AS MY BREAD CHOICE. DREDGE THE BREAD ON BOTH SIDES IN THE MIXTURE AND PLACE IN A PREHEATED BUTTERED PAN. I SPRINKLE NUTMEG ON THE FINISHED PRODUCT. YUMMY"
"This is an excellent basic recipe. I've used one like this for years and it's delicious. I have switched up variations from time to time. I sometimes use Kings Hawaiian Bread, cinnamon raisin bread, Texas toast. Would like to try brioche, but havn't found any yet. I have used egg nog and that is the bomb. This a customable recipe"
"For a twist i used rum extract and egg nog instead of milk."
"I have always used vanilla in my French toast. French or Italian bread is very good to use but if you can get Brioche, use it! I don't always use cinnamon but always use Equal, my husband is diabetic. I do use 2% milk but sometimes half and half or whipping cream. French toast is a fav of mine."
"Very similar to the French Toast and pancakes I was already making, so I knew it would be good. Sometimes I substitute Allspice or cut down on the Cinnamon and use both Allspice & Cinnamon. Butter Pecan Syrup is also very good on top of the FT or pancakes."
"Try adding Almond extract"
"It's surprising that vanilla & cinnamon is not a staple of French Toast?? It's tasty when you use heavy cream and an extra egg. And dont skimp! Brioche is the only way to go!"
"I will give it 5 stars because the recipe is almost identical to mine. But I was surprised that everyone does not already put in vanilla. Also, I use whole milk, (PS If you have brioche use it instead of bread, that takes it over and beyond 5 stars)"
"Best French toast is made with vanilla!!! This is a great recipe!! I add cinnamon to mine too... Sugar does not make it sweeter either.... Thanks..."
"I really like this recipe. I ended up adding more vanilla extract and added cinnamon to the egg mixture. I used gluten free bread with this recipe and it was very good. I will be making it again."
"I made this for my husband for dinner one evening. It was quick and easy and he enjoyed it. I used eggs laid by our ducks."
"It's a good recipe."
"out of cinnamon... looked online to see if it was still possible and BINGO! bob's your uncle."
"While all the Catty Comments? It's her recipe, not yours. If your recipe is so fabulous, post it! Why do you feel the need to insult another members recipe? Very Unladylike!!"
"This is pretty much the way I learned to make French Toast. My Dad is from Texas; however, I do not use quite as much sugar. It is absolutely delicious."
"Oh my goodness! This was the BEST French toast I ever had! I made it with Texas Toast & got 6 slices out of it. I did not soak my slices for 30 seconds on each side as the recipe states, but it turned out perfect & I wouldn't change a thing!"
"This adds a nice flavor, we often use a little maple flavoring instead of the vanilla. Yummy"
"I am not sure why you would want to add sugar to the batter unless you weren't going to top it with syrup or cinnamon-sugar. I would think it would be too sweet."
"This is how I make my french toast but instead of sugar I use cinnamon. I've tried it with sugar also."
"I have always made French tost with vanilla & cinnamon. I don't use sugar or vanilla."
"I have always used vanilla in my french toast but try using light cream instead of the milk or use half light cream and half milk...it adds a nice richness to the recipe ( and adds calories sorry). I also will use cinnamon raisin bread or just cinnamon bread for a variation on the bread."
"I add citrus tomy pancakes, such as lemon juice or orange juice. Really makes a difference."
"I've used a similar recipe before and the best "tweek" I ever made was to use raisen bread. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!"
"First time adding vanilla and sugar to french toast for me. I'll definitely make this again but the recipe was misleading in that it says it makes six slices of toast. Unless the bread is postage-stamp size or the two eggs in question are ostrich eggs, I'll need to double everything again :) I got two slices of it. Only complaint but a very minor one."
"Made this morning for breakfast. WOW! The vanilla makes a HUGE difference!"
"This is by far one of the best French Toast recipes I have tried we love it and can't wait to make it for guests!"
"I never put sugar in my mixture up until now, but I have used vanilla and cinnamon. Wow, this was great! I usually use Schmidts Honey White bread, I highly recommend because it's so soft and tasty!"
"Try adding the juice of one half of an orange to this. Outstanding!!"
"Just the way my mom always made them !!!"
"I also have always added vanilla and cinnamon to my french toast, pancakes and waffles. Substituting vanilla coffee creamer for the milk also makes it SOOO good!!"
"I have been adding vanilla to my pancakes, French toast, and waffles for years..it makes something ordinary very special...."
"Easy, and delicious! What a perfect combination:)"
"I've always made it this way since i was a kid , i'm now 59. See what you've been missing. Now top it off with some homemade syrup like i do. Can't get enough blueberry syrup in my house but make it withany kind of fruit ! I also make pancakes the same way. Alway's great ! Be prepared to make lot's, everyone loves em !"
"I use my vanilla coffee cream in place of the milk - now you really have a vanilla flavor! Also add some cinnamon. - Can only get 3-4 slices out of this recipe. Great Sunday morning recipe!"
"I have been using vanilla in french toast for as long as I can remember. But did you ever make french toast using egg nog instad of milk?"
"I've been making my french toast with vanilla for years. I also add a bit of cinnamon to my egg mixture. Another great way for delicious french toast is to buy some great cinnamon raisin bread and slice it about 3/4" thick and use the basic french toast mix with vanilla, of course. I use vanilla in pancakes and waffles too."
"Vanilla french toast is excellent and one we make whenever we have all the ingredients. It's a keeper and definitely going in my recipe box, as it tastes so good."
"Tastes great and basic ingredients that I always have on had...yum!!"
"This is a good recipe, but I added a little extra sugar and some cinnamon. It also did not make 6 slices of french toast. Next time I make it I will probably double it. My picky 3 year old cleaned her plate and wanted more but there wasn't any more."
"I agree with Ihalek - it's a great recipe that needs few ingredients, which I love. Living abroad, it's sometimes difficult (impossible) to find ingredients, but not for this recipe!"
"loved this. simple yet delicious!"
"This definitely is one of the better french toast recipes made with minimal simple ingredients. Sometimes simple tastes better, but vanilla is not a new discovery."
"I had always used vanilla as part of any recipe of french toast or hot cereals ."
