I found this recipe in a local newspaper when we moved to Arkansas almost 20 years ago. The recipe was said to be so good that even people "burned out" on turnips would like it. I'd never heard of slaw made from turnips, but I tried it and now my husband likes it better than cabbage slaw.

"I am a newly diagnosed diabetic looking for things I can eat and I saw this recipe and tried it. I like it much better than regular coleslaw. Green onion were out of season so I did change and fix 1/2 a white onion and the onion was a bit much so I would certainly fix it again but use less onion. It is going in my recipe box so that should tell you something."

"I made this slaw and put it on the table for dinner without saying anything about it. My family helped themselves to their portion and ate without comment. As my son was getting his second serving, I couldn't contain myself any longer so I asked, "How do you like the turnips?"

His reply was "Um, good," but my other son asked, "What turnips?" My husband piped up, "Where's the turnips?" They didn't even realize they had been eating them! First son said, though, that he thought the cabbage was a bit whiter and crunchier than usual.
I've made turnip slaw many times since."
