Reviews for That Good Salad
"Mmmmm I love this salad. I don't pour the dressing on if because my kids are so picky and they like to eat it without the dressing . I also put grape tomatoes on them instead of chopping up a tomato, once again, because my kiddo's are picky."
"I made this for a family function and everyone liked it. I left out the almonds due to family preference."
"I have made this recipe at least 15 times over the last couple of years -- it is my go-to salad. No changes needed!"
"we made the dressing but we did not like - i whipped up some homemade ranch (pack)n drizzled it on top and tossed it up abit... turned out better - 2nd time around!"
"I must agree with Lauriesmiles, after reading the reviews, just had to make this salad.Unfortunately the dressing ruined it"
"I have to agree with the name, this was so good! I added grilled chicken and hard boiled eggs to make lunch for my husband and I. He loved it!"
"Used the magazine recipe for the first time many years ago. This is still the all time favorite in our family. Even the children request it as their choice for family gatherings."
"This is a wonderful salad. I used to prepare it years ago when it first came out in the magazine. I ran across it again recently and am so glad I did. It is a great crowd pleaser."
"Oh, my gosh! This recipe has been requested by my family & friends literally hundreds of times since I first made it the month it was published in TOH! The only thing I change is using bagged prepared salad mixes to save time! We have six kids & all of them ask me to make it for every birthday, graduation or other special occasion as well as it being a favorite answer to the question, "What should we have for supper?" Great for ordinary daily meals as well as special events. easy to make, too."
"We looooove this salad; I often get recipe requests. I appreciate the advice from the reviewer who said she doubles the cheese when she has to omit the bacon for vegetarians... I tried tonight with friends who don't eat pork, and was happy to see them go for seconds. You just can't go wrong with this salad."
"Out of everything that I make this is my mothers FAVORITE. It does make a lot so use a big salad bowl ya"ll!"
"One of my go-to recipes whenever I'm entertaining a crowd - very good recipe!"
"So good my kids love it so much I make it twice a week"
"My family's go-to recipe for DECADES. When serving to vegetarians, I omit the bacon and double the cheese and it's just as good. Well, as good as can be without bacon! :)"
"This is one of my family's favorite salads - it's a classic!"
"I added grilled chicken strips and made it a luncheon meal for several girlfriends. They raved about it! I frequently make the dressing and use on other salads and vegetables."
"The dressing is wonderful!"

"This is perfect for family get gatherings"
"Make it for company all the time."
"I have made this recipe at least 100 times! We love it and I get asked for the recipe often. Sometimes I don't have much and I will buy pre-cooked bacon which really helps me out. No one has ever suspected!;)"
"I made this as a side salad for the meal that I made for my folks, my sister and her two daughters. Out of all the things that I made, this was the dish that they all raved about. My niece even said that this could easily be ordered in a restaurant. I'm definitely making this one again."
"Love this salad!!"
"I used to make the recipe years ago, but lost it. I'm so glad that I found it online because my family keeps requesting that I make it."
"This salad is the best! My family loves it. It is the most requested recipe that I have."
"OMGoodness!!! NOM NOM NOM!!!!!This salad should be re-named as That AWESOME salad! I made this for my ladies bunco group to accompany a casserole. Everyone raved about it! Rather than using romaine, I used red/green leaf and iceberg lettuces along with a little baby spinach - all fresh from the garden.? Except?for the lettuces, I?prepared?it as instructed.? Some say the dressing is a little bland, but I found it light and fresh - it allows the salad flavors?to?*pop.*? The only two things I perhaps would do differently would be to?make the dressing?a day in advance so the flavors can blend, and?maybe add a little more garlic or use garlic salt."
"In 1997, as a newlywed, I subscribed to Taste of Home magazine and came across this recipe. I still am expected to bring it to gatherings...that's how much my friends and family enjoy it! I use a five cheese Italian style blend instead of Swiss because of personal preference. Also, I add extra garlic and black pepper to the dressing while cutting down just a bit on the oil."
"Everyone loves this salad! The dressing tasted a little bland so I added a little extra salt. I've also made it many times without the bacon and it's just as yummy."
"Great salad!!! Everyone loves this when I make it!!!"
"Fabulous salad...I've been asked to bring for 4th of July"
"Very yummy...each ingredient complements the another ingredient! Just amazing...love it!"
"Our whole family really like this. I have used mozz. cheese instead of the swiss, just because of preference, but other than that, no changes. Even the children liked it when small, and I am making it for a get together with them this week end. It is best not to make ahead as it gets soggy. Fresh is best! Thank you for sharing it. I could not remember which cook book,as it was awhile since I had made it, and the name stuck with us as it is That good salad!, so this was great to be able to look it up on-line. Thanks!"
"One of the best salads I have ever had. A good salad to go with a heavy meal, light and delicious"
"Great salad, just became a favorite"
"Definitely one of the best salads I have ever made. Everyone in my family LOVES this salad and I can't wait for summer to make it again - will probably have it around the holidays!"
"I was in charge of getting a church dinner together and the lady we were honoring loves salads. So I went to Taste of Home to look for new salads for people to bring. Out of the 3 that was taken (taco salad, blt macaroni sald and this one) "that good salad" was completely eaten and good comments were made about it. Cant say the same about the other 2 but this one really was very good."
"Hands down best salad ever!"
"Everyone I have made this for LOVES it!! My family has requested that this be the only salad we have with our meals!!"
"If I need a real quickie, I just use lettuce, parmesan, tomatoes and croutons w/ the dressing over top. Nothing can ruin this salad. I have been making it for a long time and now I am using it in a wedding for 300 people! It is the absloute best!!! "
