  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 envelope taco seasoning
  • 1 can (16 ounces) refried beans
  • 6 flour tortillas (12 inches), warmed
  • 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded Colby-Monterey Jack cheese
  • 4 teaspoons canola oil
  • Sour cream and salsa


  1. In a large skillet, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. Stir in taco seasoning. In a small saucepan, cook refried beans over medium-low heat for 2-3 minutes or until heated through.
  2. Spoon about 1/3 cup of beans off-center on each tortilla; top with 1/4 cup beef mixture. Sprinkle with cheese. Fold sides and ends of tortillas over filling and roll up.
  3. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown burritos in oil on all sides. Serve with sour cream and salsa.
    Freeze option: Individually wrap cooled burritos in paper towels and foil; freeze in a resealable plastic freezer bag. To use, remove foil; place paper towel-wrapped burrito on a microwave-safe plate. Microwave on high 3-4 minutes or until heated through, turning once. Let stand 20 seconds.
    Yield: 6 servings.

"I made this recipe strait up. It was good enough, I guess, but we like more flavor. So if I were to make these again, definitely some garlic, onion powder, oregano, cumin and salt in the beans."

"These are easy and delicious! My family really enjoyed these. The recipe can be easily customized to your families taste, if you want a little more spice add some Jared jalape?os, don't have that cheese on hand add some cheddar or Monterey Jack.

Great served with a salad and rice and beans! I made mine just slightly different by adding the beans and cheese directly into the pan with the beef warming and mixing everything together. We will make these again!"

"My husband is a very picky eater, but he loves Taco Bell all beef burritos. So, I took a chance that he would like these. He LOVED them and told me I should make them again. He rarely says that. I did not use beans because he won't eat them and I added some leftover Taco Bell sauce packets to it. I used the 8" soft taco size tortillas. Also, I used Pam to fry them, not oil. They were a hit!"

"My family loved these. I thought they were even better the next day. I reheated in the oven for an even crispier tortilla. You could add lots of things to it if you wanted but really tasty as written."

"These were really delicious and quick to make. If I can make something in under 30 min. that's "fast food" to me. So much healthier than the store bought. I used homemade taco seasoning and coconut oil for sauteing (sorry canola oil is NOT the healthy oil we're led to believe). The canned refried beans made the mixture somewhat runny so it would depend on the brand one uses for this recipe. Might consider adding onions next time (as another reviewer mentioned) as well as jalapenos for more spice.
