Ingredients

  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped green pepper
  • 3 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 can (4 ounces) chopped green chiles
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, cubed
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • Green onions, optional
  • Tortilla chips

Directions

  1. In a large skillet, cook sausage, onion and green pepper over medium heat until meat is no longer pink, 5-7 minutes, breaking sausage into crumbles; drain.
  2. Stir in tomatoes and chiles. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add cream cheese; stir until melted. Stir in sour cream; heat through. (Do not boil.) Transfer to a fondue pot and keep warm. If desired, garnish with green onions. Serve with chips.

Sausage Cream Cheese Dip Tips

How can you make sausage cream cheese dip spicier?

Instead of mild pork sausage, consider using a hot or spicy sausage in your dip. Finely chop a jalapeno and fold that into the dip, or use it in the place of the chopped green pepper (although not the same amount—a little jalapeno goes a long way!). Add a couple dashes of hot sauce to your dip before serving, or keep a bottle of hot sauce on the side. Want some more spice in your life? Work these jalapeno recipes into your meal plan.

How can you thin sausage cream cheese dip?

If your sausage dip gets too thick, you can always thin it by stirring in a little bit of milk or sour cream, a tablespoon at a time.

Can you serve sausage cream cheese dip in a small slow cooker instead of a fondue pot?

Definitely! Keep your sausage cream cheese dip in the slow cooker on a low heat (or warm) setting so you don’t overcook or dry the dip out too much. Make sure to stir it occasionally. Don’t forget the homemade tortilla chips to go with it, and try some of our slow-cooker dip recipes if you love using your slow cooker for gatherings.
