 Streusel Apples
A yummy sweet crumb layer tops this old-fashioned apple dessert. Combined with its custard-like filling, this treat is simply irresistible. Marie Hattrup, Sparks, Nevada

Ingredients

  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 4-1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 5 cups sliced peeled tart apples
  • 1/2 cup golden raisins
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • TOPPING:
  • 1/3 cup King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons cold butter

Directions

  • In a large bowl, combine egg and lemon juice. Add the apples, raisins
  • and walnuts; toss to coat. Combine the sugar, flour, baking powder,
  • cinnamon and salt; sprinkle over apple mixture and toss to coat.
  • Spoon into an 8-in. square baking dish coated with cooking spray.
