Star-Spangled Fruit Tart Recipe

This crispy, creamy dessert is perfect for a Fourth of July celebration! With patriotic colors and a light, fluffy filling, this summery delight will be the hit of your get-together. —Renae Moncur, Burley, Idaho
TOTAL TIME: Prep: 25 min. Bake: 10 min. + cooling YIELD:16 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 tube (18 ounces) refrigerated sugar cookie dough, softened
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup fresh raspberries
  • 1 cup halved fresh strawberries

Directions

  • 1. Press cookie dough onto an ungreased 12-in. pizza pan. Bake at 350° for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
  • 2. In a small bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar and extract until smooth. Spread over crust. In center of tart, arrange berries in the shape of a star; add a berry border. Refrigerate until serving. Yield: 16 servings.

"for those of you who are having trouble making a star design . just go on internet print out large star pattern cut it out ,lay on middle of pizza pan gentlly you do not have to push it down and out line with blue berries then gentley take off star pattern and fill with strawberries. whaalaa a perfect star."

"Great recipe! Tastes and looks good: I brought it to my Sunday School class, and it was a huge hit. Due to previous review info., I greased the pan to be sure the cookie wouldn't stick and had no problems. I didn't have almond extract either, so I used vanilla extract, and it was still wonderful!"

"I've made this for many years now for the summer holidays. I've changed the almond extract to lemon zest though. Sometimes I brush apple jelly that I've warmed in the microwave, over the berries. that makes them shiny very pretty."

"I didn't have a pizza pan, so instead I used a muffin pan and made individual tarts. Unfortunately, that meant I couldn't make this design, so instead I chopped up the strawberries into pieces the size of the blueberries and just sprinkled the tops of each individual tart. They were a HUGE hit!
