- 1 round loaf (1-1/2 pounds) rye bread
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 jar (2 ounces) diced pimientos, drained
- 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
- 1/2 pound sliced provolone cheese
- 1/4 pound sliced fully cooked ham
- 1/4 pound sliced cooked turkey
- 1/4 pound sliced Genoa salami
- 1/4 pound sliced mozzarella cheese
- Cut bread in half horizontally; hollow out top and bottom, leaving a 3/4-in. shell. (Discard removed bread or save for another use.)
- In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, mustard, pimientos and hot pepper sauce; spread 1/4 cup in the bottom bread shell. Layer with a fourth of the provolone, ham, turkey, salami and mozzarella. Spread with more of the mayonnaise mixture. Repeat layers three times (you may not use up all of the mayonnaise mixture). Replace bread top and wrap tightly with plastic wrap.
- Chill for at least 3 hours. Remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before serving. Cut into wedges; serve with remaining mayonnaise mixture if desired. Yield: 6-8 servings.

"I agree with the reviews that said simple or not this is a good idea.I was browsing for a quick meal and this is it..never thought of serving a sandwich.I think of this and other recipe sites as not only to make never done before creations but for me, a resource of ideas for whatever i am in the mood for.The last thing i needed today was a lot of work.I most sefinitely will use this as my starting point today,While i am an experienced cook,,many are not and everyone needs ideas for meals."
"We must keep in mind that this is a public site and many from all levels of cooking experience are using it. Not to mention users from regions that a simple sandwich to us may never have been heard of by them. I for one love to see "A Simple Sandwich" post. This simple sandwich post gave me an idea for a sandwich I love from a deli I visit. Instead of making the sandwiches individually I will make "muffuletta style" which most definitely will be an eye catcher and convenient when serving to a crowd. Although the idea for my favorite sandwich will be substituting meats, cheese and sauce I will still most definitely make this one as well. Good job and keep the "simple" recipes coming.
