Spiced Chai Mix Recipe

Spiced Chai Mix Recipe

One Christmas, my sister-in-law mixed up this drink for our family gathering. I asked for the recipe and have been enjoying it's warm, spicy flavor ever since. It tastes great with a warm blanket and a good book! —Dee Falk, Stromsburg, Nebraska

"This is a great snowy day drink! I just used a little more nutmeg and cinnamon because I love those flavors a lot, but the recipe, as is, is DELICIOUS! Thanks for sharing!"

"This tasted pretty good, but the cardamom is a little pricey. The worst thing about this recipe is that the powdered milk would not dissolve. There was always a glob of it in the bottom of the cup even when I stirred it the entire time I was drinking. If they could improve powdered milk, I would love this recipe."

"Love it!! For those of you asking about unsweetened instant tea - it took me awhile but I found it in one of my local Wal-Marts. I used it all up but think it was Nestea brand but could have been Lipton. Not all of my local Wal-Marts had it but keep looking. Hopefully you will find it. My husband uses the instant tea for making use Russian Tea and now I will use it for this Chai recipe."

I am struggling to find the unsweetened instant tea... can there be a substitution?

I'm thinking you could leave the sugar out & use a sweetened mix.  One without lemon.  I was looking on-line to see if I could find a brand, but I'm not coming up with one."

"This is very tasty! My sis-in-law and I love it. It is great as is, but to make it a little healthier, we cut the sugar down & replace half or more of the sugar with Splenda. You could experiment with that - to get the combo that works best for your taste buds. Now we don't feel so guilty drinking this yummy hot drink. I'm thinking a splash of bourbon or rum on a wintery chilly night might also be an idea...."

"I used to purchase a Chai Mix from the store but it got too expensive. I tried this recipe last night and LOVED it!! I still have to purchase a food processor so I can get the powdery consistency the way it should be, but I used my rolling pin last night to break down the dry milk as best as I could and it worked just fine. Had 2 hot cups last night and another this morning. I won't be without this mix made up in my kitchen ever again. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!"

"I made this Chi Tea today. I did change a couple things because I read some reviews. I did not use sugar at all. I used Vanilla coffee creamer that was sugar free, which was sweetened with Splenda. I used 1 cup instead of the 3/4 because I did not use sugar, and I added 1/2 teaspoon more of the spices. Now I can enjoy with less guilt. Very good."

"Made it as directed only sugar-free. Thought it was great, but next time I'll kick up the spices a bit and add a pinch or two of salt as someone else suggested."

"Very good, and simple to make. I do not have a food processor so I struggled a bit with getting everything smooth and well mixed but I discovered that the blender works for mixing about two or so cups of the powder at a time. I just mixed up the big batch with my kitchen aid mixer and then blended 2 cup portions in the blender to get it evenly smooth."

"We increased the major spices to give it more "punch" as we like the flavors to pop in our food and drinks. Adding a pinch of salt greatly enhanced the flavor. Consider using with milk for a richer version."
