Reviews for Speedy Brownies
"I read all the reviews before I made these, figured with the five eggs and cup of oil there was no way they could be dry, but they were. I followed the recipe exactly, and did not over-bake them. The recipe makes too much for just the two of us, so I had planned on sharing with the neighbors, but my other half nixed that idea. They are no better the second day. I split the pan into five sections, and froze four of them. We'll eat them, but in small doses. Back to my Ghirardelli box mix I guess."
"These were delicious and became fudgier the next day."
"I'm sorry but these brownies have no flavor at all. ?? Very disappointed."
"These are the best brownies i have ever made. Put some caramel pieces in them. Super Yummy"
"these are my favorite brownies now.. I've made them 3 times.. So moist and taste like cake.. You won't be sorry making these... :)"
"Delicious dessert, perfect for any potluck or any time you need an office treat! (Or if you just want to treat yourself!) Very easy to make and better than buying the mix. I use mini chocolate chips instead of full size for this recipe and they still turn out great. Just be careful to not over bake!"
"I have been making this recipe for decades now. It is soft and fudge-y if you don't over-bake it. I do not use Canola oil since it is questionable as to health benefits. I use soybean oil or peanut oil. Maybe it's all the same, but it does turn out the same regardless. Very, very good and very, very easy. I like that there isn't frosting but still tastes great."
"I tried this recipe a few months ago and I love it! I use grape seed oil and add walnuts. I've also used peanut butter chips or peanut butter on the top. A crowd pleaser for sure."
"I have made these twice now, these are the best brownies and they are so moist stay that way for a days if they last that long. I added on my second batch 1 c chopped walnuts, just because we love walnuts and they were fabulous. This is my new brownie recipe, thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe!"
"These brownies where easy to make and like other reviewer said, the next day they where amazing! Also I can't help but laugh at one review :D I really hope she posted this as a joke! A cup HOLDS 8oz of WATER, chocolate chips have air pockets around them, so they will be lighter, and a cup of feathers will be even lighter :D"
"Very easy to make and everyone loves them!!"
"I made these on a whim after having a serious craving for brownies, and fresh out of the oven, I had an experience similar to some other reviewers here: the brownies were too dry for my taste, more cakey than gooey or fudgey... However, upon tasting them the next day, they are delicious. Gooey and chocolatey and your perfect brownie. The third day, even - just as delicious. Long story short, if you find your brownies a bit dry out of the oven, let them rest for a few hours and then dig in."
"I got this recipe originally from the Taste of Home magazine a few years ago. I love it and so does everyone that eats the ones I make. Of course, us cooks all have our own little 'touches' and 'substitutes' we use, as I do with this recipe. That's OK too.I highly recommend anyone to use this recipe. They are oh, so good."
"I was reluctant to try this recipe as it calls for canola oil instead of butter. I did make them, and they turned out to be very good. I took them to serve after a function, and they were all eaten. I did reduce the eggs to 4 instead of 5 as another reviewer suggested. A good brownie recipe ... and quick too."
"easy to make, but not as fudgy as I expected."
"Just made these this evening. They are very good. They have a cake/fudgy consistency. I started checking them at 25 minutes for doneness. My oven took about 28 minutes - the toothpick still had some moist crumbs on it. The only change I made was I used 4 eggs, because that was all I had. They still turned out great. Would make them again. Nice simple recipe with great results. Just don't over bake them."
"The secret to baking any brownie recipe is to not bake too long! My recipe was perfect at 25 minutes, not 30. Always check your recipe at least 10 minutes before recipe is supposed to be done. I am an experienced baker of five decades and learned this trick at my Grandmother's knee. This same advice holds true for all baking but brownies, in particular, come out very dry if baked just five minutes more than needed."
"Three big issues here: one-the first thing I could taste was just egg, not much else. two-way to dry to be a brownie; its more like bread than anything else. three-SOOO BITTER."
"Took to a potluck yesterday and none came back home. Fantastic recipe, you will get lots of compliments!"
"these are litterally so delishious! anyone looking at this comment RIGHT NOW MAKE THIS RECIPE. your fam jam will love ya!"
"Blows boxed brownie mix out of the water"
"These are my new favorite brownies. So easy to make and taste SO much better than box brownies."
"Make these brownies all the time, never had a failure with these. Had many recipe requests when using this recipe. This is my "go-to" brownie recipe."
"This recipe has no flavors, is very dry and just horrible. I threw them out. What a waste of 5 eggs! Not even good as a cake."
"Delicious, and SO easy to make! Everyone loved them! Sucrebaby, all-purpose flour = plain flour (you can find the answer to almost everything by googling :)"
"Can someone tell me what all purpose flour is? Is that plain flour or self raising?"
"So so good and easier than a box mix and taste much better!"
"I needed a quick recipe for a last day of school treat to serve the neighborhood kids as they got off the bus. These brownies fit the bill and my three youngsters unanimously gave them a 5 star rating. I made the recipe as instructed except that I mixed 1/2 C. of chocolate chips into the batter before pouring it into the pan. I sprinkled the remaining 1/2 C. of chips on top, as directed. I baked them for about 25 minutes when the cake tester came out clean. I will be making these again and again!"
"I would like to try this recipe, but the reviews are confusing! They say they are fudgey or cakey. Can't be both!! Wonder which it is?"
"I made these yesterday they are super easy. I did make a great deal of changes such as I cut the sugar in half, used half a cup unsweetened applesauce and only half a cup canola oil. I also added some expresso powder to increase the chocolate flavor. Also instead of semi sweet chips I used leftover dark chocolate from easter. Good foundation of a recipe."
"they look de-licious! haven't tried them yet but will soon!"
"what instead of canola oil?"
"Just made these and they are delicious! Forget the boxed brownie mix; this is so much better!!"
"This is a really easy recipe and the brownies are fabulous. I will definitely be making these again. Next time I will add walnuts."
"Did not put chocolate chips on top. Brownies were dry when baked for 30 minutes at 350 degrees needing more liquid in the recipe."
"These were the best brownies I've ever made. I've always found a hard time making a good brownie, but these were awesome. To be honest, I don't think the picture here does them much justice. I almost didn't try them because they looked really cake-y on top and in the middle. But mine turned out the way I like brownies to look - a little shiny on top with some nice crackling going on. I also mixed the chips in instead of sprinkling them on top. They were awesome! But I did have to bake them just a few minutes longer than the recipe says. Highly suggest this one!"
"These are awesome. This is the first time I have made brownies from scratch and to be honest I don't think I will need to try any more recipes. I took them to a Super Bowl gathering and everyone loved them. So easy to make and so good. I also added a vanilla glaze to them which made them even more yummy!"
"This has been my brownie recipe ever since it was first published in "quick Cooking." I taught all three of my boys to make it and they love it. One even volunteered to make them for our Superbowl party this year. To make them fudgier, I like to put the entire amount of chocolate chips in the batter and then add more on top. Yum! Thanks, Taste of Home!"
"Made these for my sons' scout treat because we were short on time and had all the ingredients on hand. Used Hershey's special dark cocoa and Nestle Sno-caps chips to make it a bit more interesting. I got lots of compliments on how good they were. They were so rich, you better make sure you have a glass of milk ready to go with them!"
"I have made this recipe for years. It is wonderful. I don't change a thing. One suggestion for easier mixing is to mix the dry ingredients well before adding the wet. I have also put M&M's on top instead of chocolate chips."
"These were by far the worst, most dry, flavorless brownies I've ever had. Took one bite and threw the entire pan in the garbage!!"
"I have never been very successful at making brownies from scratch, until this recipe came along. They are moist, cut easily, and no fuss when it comes to frosting. We like to use half milk chocolate and half peanut butter chips on top, and of course top with ice cream for our very own brownie sundays."
"These are delicious, maybe even better than the boxed mix! And they're so easy! To cut down (slightly) on the calories, I used 3 whole eggs and 2 egg whites in place of the 5 whole eggs, and the texture was still deliciously chewy and moist. So good!"
"i can sum up my review in one word - FANTASTIC!!"
"I needed to make something for a gathering and decided to try these. They were a hit and I came home with an empty pan!"
"Made these today, as I had all the ingredients in the house, for my grandson & friends. They came together within no time, but I used mini-chips & it took away from the appearance, the regular ones on the picture show. Don't use the mini ones as they don't look as appealing as the regular size ones do. Will definitely make again, but use the different chips, as stated. Thanks Diane, for the great recipe."
"I'm not sure how many stars I gave it (my computer is omitting the pic), but it should be 5 stars. An AMAZING recipe-it truly was quick, not to mention delicious. I was a little skeptical, since I ran out of white flour and had to use whole wheat. Also, I substituted melted butter for the canola oil. Despite all that, it was amazing! It bordered on the "chocolate cake" texture. Oh, and it came out of the pan super easy! I mean, all I did was put the knife in a liiiiitttlee and pop-out comes the brownie! Anyways, all in all, great recipe, I'm definitely making it again."
"I haven't made this recipe yet, but I am going to try it. I am wondering if you can use egg whites for the 5 regular eggs? I am trying to reduce calories and fat as much as can be done. Please advise"
"Excellent. Why would you ever want to buy brownies mix again? Definitely will make again:)"
"So easy and so good! This is now my go-to recipe for brownies."
"I have made this recipe 3 times so far and I have not messed it up yet. They are always moist and delicious. Everyone who has them wants the recipe. I have changed the topping two times and they were even better!! Great recipe."
"This is by far one of the best brownie recipes I have ever tried! They turn out perfect every time."
"These were great, even self-proclaimed brownie lovers said these were the best."
"I love this brownie recipe and have been for a long time, it's so easy"
"I substituted 1 cup of apple sauce for the 1 cup of oil and the brownies came out perfect. I used a smaller pan (Perfect Brownie pan) and the chocolate chips sunk to the bottom and made a yummy gooey mess. I just flipped the brownies over and smoothed out the top and it made almost like a frosting. :o) I will use the 13x9 pan next time and see if the chips sink to the bottom. I think there were just too many chips for the size pan that I used. But to those looking for a way to reduce the fat in this recipe, the applesauce worked great. I gave the recipe 4 stars only because it has too much fat for me and one can use applesauce and they taste great."
"Great recipe ... Every Friday evening we hold a pot luck at the beach. These were the hit of last Friday's dinner."
"Amazingly moist and super easy! To die for with some peanut butter frosting on top! Thanks for the recipe!"
"Try using dark chocolate with these. If you like cakey brownies, this is a great recipe."
"make these all the time we just love them and I give the recipe out to everyone"
"What else is there to say? These are super easy, super moist, & super good. A MUST HAVE recipe!"
"I was very impressed with this recipe! Not only were the ingredients ready-at-hand, but they were also very moist when I made them the first time! One variation I have made that was HUGELY successful, was to substitute the 1 cup of oil with 1 cup on Irish cream. If you are wondering how I ended up trying this, I didn't have enough oil, so I decided I'd give it a go! :)I highly recommend this recipe to anyone!"
"Very good! Just like someone else mentioned, you can put other chips on top. I usually go with peanut butter chips. The white chocolate sounds really good too though. Maybe next time I'll give those a shot."
"Awesome! Have been making these brownies since they came out in the Premier Issue. My husband especially loves them because they stay moist so long. With only two eating, they don't go so fast. Always take them to potlucks, come home with an empty pan. Really colorful with baking M & Ms. Kids love them."
"Just like the title says---this recipe IS so quick and I usually have all the ingredients on hand. Verry yummy too!"
"Brownies were a hit w/my hubby who does not like brownies . I added walnuts delish. This recipe is a keeper and a breeze to make.Royurboat."
"very moist and delicous"
"These were good and speedy, too! Very convenient."
