Seasoned Taco Meat

I got this recipe from the restaurant where I work. It's famous in our town for the blend of seasonings, and now the secret is out! —Denise Mumm, Dixon, Iowa

2 large onions, chopped

2 cups water

5 tablespoons chili powder

2 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon ground cumin

3/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

In a large cast-iron skillet or Dutch oven, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink, breaking it into crumbles; drain. Add water and seasonings. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, until the water is evaporated, about 15 minutes.
