Sage Tea Bread Recipe
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons minced fresh sage or 2 teaspoons rubbed sage
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1. In a small saucepan, heat milk and sage just until warm (do not boil); set aside to cool. In a bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; add to the creamed mixture alternately with milk mixture.
- 2. Pour into a greased 8-in. x 4-in. loaf pan. Bake at 350° for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack. Yield: 6 servings.

"I had some fresh sage that I was trying to use up. When I ran across this recipe, I thought it would be a good use for it. Overall this is a good tea bread. It didn't have the flavor I was expecting though. I guess i was thinking it wouldn't have such a sweet taste to it (yes, i do realize that sugar will typically make things sweet). This was very easy to make and I would probably make it again sometime. I think I prefer the lemon thyme tea bread recipe i have better."
"It's sort of both. It's slightly sweet and a mild sage flavor. I put butter on mine, but a sweetened butter (like honey butter) would be good as well."
