Reviews for Potluck Macaroni and Cheese
"The taste of this recipe is fantastic. I made it with the exact recipe & was very happy with it! The only issue I had with it was the mixing of the ingredients at the beginning & in the middle...There was so much heavy cheese, trying to combine it my noodles were starting to get crushed (especially the half way point). I did a whole box of noodles al denti (actually went under the box cook time of al denti) & by the end of the 2 1/2 hour mark on low they were a little too mushy, especially because the sauce is SO thick. Also, the cheese was barely melted at that time...This is a keeper for me & I'm going to try to adjust a few small things (no one else seemed to have these issues in reviews, so may have been operator error!) The cheese amount seems crazy when making it but the taste is really great! This is a great crock pot Mac & Cheese recipe."
"Love this mac n cheese! I am a big Mac n cheese lover and have tried tons of recipes. This is one of my top 2! Definitely #1 for creaminess and an easy crockpot recipe. The only change I make is to add more macaron and sometimes I do all sharp cheddar. I usually do 1 1/2 the suggested amount- around 1lb of noodles (4 1/2ish cups dry). It's still plenty creamy and delicious- you could even double the noodles for a bigger crowd. Not a diet food for sure but pure delicious comfort food!"
"I have taken this to pot lucks at church - its always gobbled up and they request me to bring it the next dinner"
"My family loves this recipe."
"This was excellent!! My only change was using 2% milk because that's what I had. Creamy and delicious!"
"Easy and so yummy & creamy... My family loved this mac & cheese! Will definitely keep this recipe handy. Makes a lot, though, so should halve for family dinner night for four."
"Yummy! True comfort food and it was a hit at church."
"Excellent! I was skeptical as I'm not a huge macaroni and cheese fan, but this was really good. I added half a package of bacon and onion powder, but other than that, I followed the recipe. My husband has already requested I make this for Christmas Eve with Ham."
"My family LOVES this! So creamy and cheesy! Everything comes together nicely."
"This is a great recipe! I have served it over and over at international student potlucks for the vegetarians in our midst. And there are never leftovers! A definitely keeper in my recipe box! I omit the eggs, and put the rest in a crock pot to serve to the group."
"Thick and creamy.. But not a lot of flavor. Relatively expensive to make"
"I made this for a family reunion and it was a hit! I made just two "tweaks" to the recipe: I used four cups of the Mexican cheese blend instead of two of it and two of the shredded white cheddar (because my small-town grocery store didn't have the latter) and I used 2% milk because that's what I had on-hand.The flavor and creaminess were wonderful! It got rave reviews by the kids and adults alike, and I had several requests for the recipe...including one from my college-bound niece who is a mac & cheese fanatic. She's starting to build her cooking repertoire and wants to be able to make this whenever the mood strikes!"
"Really easy crockpot recipe, especially for pot lucks. I used Mexican style velvetta for my big Mexican family ! Added a can of rotel , and of course chopped cooked bacon, cuz everything's better with bacon ! ????. Everyone from 1 to 92 loved, loved, loved it. One of my go to recipes now for big get togethers with family and friends !!"
"Made this last night for a BBQ steak supper for a few buddies. Only change made was to add some coarsely chopped onion towards the end of cooking the macaroni, and only because we all love onions. Definitely the best mac and cheese I have ever made, and only 5 guys made short work of it all. A couple never finished their steak or corn on the cob, just to have more of it. A real keeper for me. Thanks so much!!!"
"This recipe has become a tradition in the family. I'm always giving out the recipe. I have used up to two boxes of elbow pasta and it's still creamy cheesy. BEST EVER!"
"The most over used phrase today is OMG....but --- O.M.G!!! I have been searching for ages for a go-to Mac and Cheese recipe. This one is by far the best I have ever tasted. Incredibly creamy and delicious. My only wish is that I had boiled the noodles about 3 minutes less. They weren't mushy, or anything, but since this was for a potluck, I had turned it off 30 minutes before lunch to keep them from turning too mushy. Wish I had brought some breadcrumbs as well - that would have added a little crunch and next time I will probably add some diced ham. I'm in heaven!! Thank you for this recipe!!!"
"This is so yummy and warming. Did not use they eggs. It came out wonderful !!!"
"My kids and grandkids love a creamy Mac and Cheese rather than the baked version. This one is perfect. It has a wonderful flavor and turned out smooth and creamy. The recipe makes a large amount, but I cooled the leftovers and froze individual packs for the kids to reheat. This reminds me of a "name brand" frozen mac and cheese that is so much more expensive, but tastes way better."
"I made this for the first time a few months ago. Everyone loved it. Rich, creamy,, and easy. My 3 teenagers turn their nose up at regular Mac and cheese now. This has become a true staple in our home."
"made this today for a potluck for school. It was fabulous and very easy! I bet it would be good with some diced cooked ham."
"Luscious, creamy, flavorful, perfect. I shared it on FB. Definitely my go-to mac n' cheese recipe! Perfect for our Super Bowl party. I'm so glad we had a bit leftover so I can have more today. I'm sure you could freeze small portions for an easy side dish anytime!"
"This was excellent! I actually doubled the recipe, and put it all in one crockpot. It barely fit, so I would probably just divide it into two crockpots next time. Since it was so full, I started it on high for a couple hours, then finished it on low for a couple more hours, stirring every hour or so and checking the temperature to make sure it got to 160. Everyone loved it. Will definitely make this one again."
"This was honestly just plain gross. There's nowhere near enough actual cheese and entirely too much velveeta. As a result, the whole thing tasted like american cheese goo with macaroni in it. Won't be making this again."
"Hands down best macaroni and cheese I have ever tasted. I had to bring the Macaroni and Cheese to a company Christmas potluck and I wanted one I could make in the crock pot. So I began searching Google for recipes and I tried making one and it tasted okay but the consistency was not good. So I found this one and decided to give it a try, it was so easy to make and I threw it all together in the morning, put it in the fridge (before cooking it) for a couple of hours and then I took it out and brought it to work with me. Plugged the crock pot it, set it to Low for 3 hours and all of my co-workers raved about how fantastic it was and I brought home a very small portion to my husband because that was all that was left and he LOVED it and he is picky when it comes to Macaroni and Cheese!! I will be making this dish for every pot luck from here on out and I will be making it for me and hubby to enjoy on a regular basis!!"
"Question: If I wanted to make this for about 3 people (me, my husband, and me for leftovers), what sort of reductions/alterations do you suggest?"
"This is hands down my family's favorite mac & cheese. I use 2 1/2 cups elbow mac, Velveeta shreds and medium cheddar as the white cheddar has a sharp, unpleasant taste. I stir it about half way through, adding an additional 5 oz can of evaporated milk. Otherwise, it's pretty thick and kind of gloppy. Super flavor and really easy. Feeds a lot of people so it's perfect for holidays & reunions."
"I easily found the fontina cheese in the deli area and it is just a little pricey. Have to shred yourself. Made exactly as is, it is totally delicious. Everyone loves it, adults to kids. I like the idea of adding a little paprika. So easy to take to potluck, etc."
"Great recipe. (Needs more cheese though) just kidding. Make sure you are having a big get together because it makes a lot. This is now my go to Mac & Cheese recipe."
"Fantastic, the whole family loves it. Including my finicky four year old."
"2 hours on low is just right. Let it set a few minutes and it thickens to delicious creamy side. I'm going to try onion powder and extra sharp cheddar for a little more flavor next time."
"Family loved it! I would say eat at 2hrs - after three hours on low the cheese starts to congeal but at the same time it still tastes great! Love the recipe1"
"Awesome!! Esp. Great for a party. All ages will love this and it is so easy. Will serve this again at our annual St. Patrick's Day Party!"
"Delicious! Followed the recipe exactly and the result was perfection! Creamy, yummy, classic mac and cheese!"
"This has to be the easiest but best tasting Mac & cheese I have ever had. Recipe is a must keep."
"I just won 'Best Main Dish' at my office's crockpot cook-off with this macaroni and cheese recipe. It's that good, people!!"
"Great family recipe"
"This is my mac and cheese lover's favorite recipe."
"My kids didn't like it."
"Made for my 4th of July party... not a morsel was leftover! My daughters friends came over last night and asked if I could make it again... just for them :-)"
"Made this for a family gathering over a rainy 4th of July and it was a huge hit. Excellent Mac and Cheese, and so easy to prepare."

"Thank you all so much for the lovely reviews, glad you all like the recipe. Also, try using a slow cooker liner and it helps with the cleanup."
"Some of the creamiest Macaroni and Cheese I've ever had. Everyone loved it! I'll definitely make again."
"Like many other reviewers, I made this for a work potluck and couldn't believe how fast it went. Everyone crowded around the crockpot, kinda made me feel bad for the other dishes. **Changes I made as this was for adults, I used Pepper Jack cheese instead of Mexican cheese, and Sharp cheddar instead of white cheddar, egg substitute (3/4 c.) and a few splashes of hot sauce of your choice!! Nice because you can cook pasta night before, mix everything together in the morning and when you get to work put it on low for 2-3 hrs. Comes out perfect and hot for the potluck. I haven't used the crockpot liners before, but might next time. It was a HUGE success. Also I have very picky kiddos and they loved it."
"Rich and creammy and very easy to make. A hit with all and definitely a keeper!"
"easy and fantasic"
"I made this for a party at work and it was a HUGE hit! I followed the recipe, except I used 4 cups of pasta or 1 lb instead of 3 cups. And the last 1/2 hour I sprinkled about 1/2 of a cup of seasoned bread crumbs with about a 1/2 cup of additional butter. All I can say is OMG! My friends were scraping the crock pot to get every last bite. I cooked the pasta the night before and put all the other ingredients in another container and then cooked it at work. I did not melt the butter, I just cubed it. The next time I made it I used a cooking bag and the clean up was so much easier. My friends call it crack or a heart attack in a spoonful. Enjoy"
"This is the absolutely the BEST macaroni & cheese recipe I have ever had!! I've always been trying to duplicate Picadilly's macaroni & cheese recipe, but this one is even better!!! It is cheesy, creamy & oh soooo delicious!!!!!!!!!!"
"I used a 10 oz. box of elbow noodles, did NOT use the eggs, increased the regular milk to 2 cups. I used about 12 oz. white sharp and 12 oz of medium cheddar and about 20 oz. of velveeta. I did use 1 stick of butter. Added salt and pepper. Excellent! Served with my New Years meal. Will make again and again!"
"Perfect potluck dish! I skipped the eggs, substituted Sharp White Cheddar for white cheddar and added a dash of Paprika and cooked on low for 2 hours. I was shocked at how quickly it disappeared, the pleased faces and pleasantly surprised to be asked for "my" recipe. I will serve this again. It gives the comforting gooey goodness of boxed macaroni but with that homemade touch."
"How much uncooked pasta, it can't be 3 cups to serve 16 people???"
"We made this for Thanksgiving in place of my Mom's macaroni that everyone has always loved. Needless to say, everyone loved this one much more! I have now been designated to make the macaroni and cheese from now on, lol. Thank you so much for this recipe! We love it!"
"The owner of my workplace throws a Thanksgiving buffet for people who don't have family around, and this year he asked to make mac and cheese for. I used this recipe and it was such a huge hit that everyone asked me to make it again for our Christmas party!I only made minor changes -- left out the eggs, added a cup of sliced extra-sharp cheddar, used shell pasta, used only evaporated milk and added some vegetable broth because it turned rather too stiff/sticky at one point, but that was it. The result was smooth, creamy, and hearty-- truly a comforting crowd pleaser!"
"Made this recipe the first time for a grown up birthday party. Mac n cheese is his favorite dish so I made this and people where still talking about it 2 weeks later. Making it for a BBQ we are going to today. I followed the recipe except I put 8oz of mild cheddar and 8oz of sharp cheddar and only one stick of butter."
"The taste was really good, but it turned out a little thick for my liking. Next time I will cook at a lower temp in the crockpot or add a little more milk. The taste of the white cheddar was surprisingly good!"
"This was so yummy! The only thing is that it was so rich. It was almost too hard to eat so make sure to pair it with something plain like green beans. The recipe is definitely a keeper."
"Just finished serving this at a company potluck. It was a big hit and was super easy to make. For a dash of presentation, I combined some bread crumbs and melted butter and sprinkled it on top."
"This recipe was used with few, if any, deviations for my son's birthday lunch with family. It received rave reviews and I was asked for the recipe (more than once) which endorsed the greatness of the dish."
"Hands down the BEST recipe for mac and cheese! I made it exactly as printed with no changes and got rave reviews from family and friends- a great potluck dish! Next time I'm going to try sprinkling it with buttered cornflake crumbs on top before serving!"
"What a great recipe. The best Mac & Cheese I've ever had."
"Good recipe, but I will decrease the fat content next time I make it."
"Delicious, very creamy. I combined all ingredients for cheese sauce, added it to cooled macaroni, then put it in the greased slow cooker. Cooked it for 2 hours on slow and then 30 min. on high."
"I try a difference recipe every time I make Mac n Cheese (4 or 5 times a year). So far this has been the easiest and best tasting. I would never have thought to cook mac n cheese in the crock pot but it was yummy."
