Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons onion salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/3 cup vinegar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seed

1 serving (2 tablespoons) equals 183 calories, 16 g fat (2 g saturated fat), 0 cholesterol, 194 mg sodium, 11 g carbohydrate, trace fiber, trace protein.

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine sugar, onion salt and mustard. Add vinegar; mix well. Gradually add oil while beating on medium speed; beat for 5 minutes or until very thick. Stir in poppy seeds. Cover and refrigerate. Serve over fresh fruit or salad greens. Refrigerate leftovers. Yield: 1-2/3 cups.

I thought this recipe was really good, the only reason I gave it 4 stars was because I like it less sweet and only used 1/2 cup of sugar to achieve that..it was easy and will definitely make it again. I made a salad with mixed spring greens, cashews, craisins, chopped apples, and shredded swiss cheese with the dressing for New Year's eve and we loved it.

My family loves this with spinach, strawberries, mandarin oranges and sliced almonds.

I put all the ingredients (except poppy seeds) in the blender and it came out perfectly. Used it to dress fresh spinach, sliced strawberries, and homemade candied walnuts. It was a big hit at church--fresh and colorful.
