Pancake Syrup Recipe

Pancake Syrup Recipe

My husband has fond memories of this recipe. Every Sunday morning, his dad would get up early to make the family pancakes and syrup. They didn't have much money, but the kids never knew that. What they do remember is that their dad always had time to make their Sundays extra special. —Lorrie McCurdy, Farmington, New Mexico

"Great simple recipe! I cut the ingredients in half because I didn't need a lot, I didn't have maple flavoring, so I added a sprinkle of cinnamon, it turned out amazing!"

"We used to make syrup like this when I was a kid, except we rarely had brown sugar, so we used just white sugar. Going to try using less water like krysfielder, becauseI'm looking for a thicker syrup. Exactly the idea I had in mind anyway, just needed a second opinion. :-)"

"Delicious syrup! Way cheaper than store bought too. I did lower the amount of water to 1/2 cup to make it thicker. I am going to try different flavor extracts to get different flavor syrups next."

"My mom made a recipe like this for years. She used sugar, water and Mapleine. I gave it four stars because I prefer real maple syrup. We had friends that used to tap maple trees for the syrup.

Bonjour Bahchicherif! 1 cup packed brown sugar = 220 grams, 1 cup sugar white granulated sugar water = 201 grams, and 1 cup water = 237 grams. Or simply use equal volumes of brown sugar, sugar and water. 1 teaspoon maple flavoring (or extract) = 5 grams. Other recipes use as much as 1 tablespoon (15 grams or milliliters) of the maple flavoring.
Note: In the US, cups are standard units of measure in the home, and grams or milliliters are used in laboratory."

"This was one of the first recipes my husband wanted me to get from his Mom when we were first married many years ago. She insisted Mapline was the only maple flavoring to use.

Although I prefer real maple syrup, this is much cheaper and more convenient, and a very good substitute."

"Great recipe. So easy and tastes far much better than the bottled syrup. Of course it is made of a lot of sugar but you don't have the preservatives and colors added like in the commercially made product. Thickens nicely when cooled a bit. I've been using a combination of butter and vanilla flavorings. My husband eats toaster waffles every day for breakfast and I have been making this syrup for him (2 batches now) and he says to "never buy that bottled stuff again"!! This is a keeper!!"

"Because I like my syrup thick, I took some advice from previous reviewers and cut the water to 3/4 cup and cooked it for a while! It is SO delicious!!! I don't plan on buying syrup ever again! I also used vanilla because I didn't have maple extract and added a pinch of salt to cut the sweetness a bit. (It thickens even more when it cools down)"

"Such a simple, quick, & tasty substitute! Thank you! We prefer our syrup a bit thicker so I used only 3/4 C. water and cooked for a minute longer. I had no maple flavoring so I swapped it for pure vanilla and its just as flavorful."
