Reviews for Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Bars
"These bar cookies were really good. I had a half package of cinnamon chips in the freezer so I added them mixed in with the chocolate chips to sprinkle on the top. Yum! I also added about a half cup of chocolate chips to the batter. Everyone loved them."
"I've made these twice and plan on making them again. These are really delicious and super easy. I took an extended lunch break so I could bring to work for a an afternoon snack and they were a huge hit! I mixed dark chocolate chips in with the batter and no glaze. Used super chunky peanut butter too. Super good flavor."
"Nice flavor, but very dry."
"Yummy! I put chocolate chips in the mixture rather then on top and left off the icing. It was perfect for us. Not overly sweet. Like eating a wonderful chunky soft chocolate chip/peanut butter cookie. Will definitely be making this again! Thank you, Patricia Staudt, for this recipe!"
"Easy, quick and good! I read the other reviews about them being dry, so I decided to use 6 TBL canola oil. in place of the butter. Used 1/3 c sugars as others have done and like collyflower07 I only had old fashioned oats, so I put them in a food processor and pulsed a few times. Dough was crumbly, so I patted it down evenly with my hands,. I didn't make the icing, but as soon as I took them out of the oven, I swirled/spread the chocolate chips.YUM! Will definately make it this way again."
"Delicious! And uses pantry staples, so it's easy to make anytime. It's probably going to be my new go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe."
""Addictive" - CoworkerI only had old-fashioned slow cooking oatmeal, and that worked perfectly.I also added a handful of white chocolate chips and peanuts to the top, in addition to the regular chocolate chips."
"These were very tasty. I prefer some crunch, so I like using chunky peanut butter in the bars and sprinkling chopped peanuts over top of the icing."
"The family loved them, however they felt chunky peanut butter would be better. I'll have to try that next time."
"These are great and super easy! My four sons and husband loved them!!!!!"
"Very tasty with good flavor and texture with the oats. I didn't do the icing and still enjoyed these."
"Made these bars today. Very good!!!! Husband says yes. Very moist. I did make more of an icing, instead of a glaze. I will be making again, maybe next week!!"
"Pretty good and easy to make."
"Made these twice in the past couple of months. They are DELICIOUS!!!! My picky eaters gobble them right up! They never last more than two days. Will be making these again and again and again and again! They are perfect. Follow the recipe and you won't be disappointed."
"Easy to make."
"Way too much sugar!"
"So easy and super yummy! I got lots of compliments when I took this to a gathering. Will be making this again because it was SOOO easy! I did mix the chips into the batter versus sprinkling them on top... I liked how they turned out that way."
"These were good and easy to put together. I needed to thin the icing a bit with milk to make it drizzle nicely."
"Great taste, oatmeal added nice texture, and the drizzle made this a more special cookie! Put choc chips on top as the recipe says or cookie will be mushy; we ate cookie 20 minutes after out of the oven. Also I cut the chips down to 2/3c., sugars each 1/3c and it was plenty sweet, esp if using skippy or like PB. Natural PB has just salt, no sugar in it. I'll definitely try this recipe again and play around with the type of PB I use."
"Fabulous...quick easy and full of flavour !"
"Wonderful recipe....NOT dry! I used a whole bag of Nestle semi sweet morsels though and don't over bake. The icing gave them an extra special touch and flavor....loved that! This recipe is a KEEPER and I will be making them again! Yum!"
"These sounded really good but turned out really dry. What could I do to make them moist."
"THESE WERE GOOD BUT I THINK THE OATMEAL MAKES THEM A LITTLE DRY."
"I'm not sure what went wrong for me with these ones. They seem to have gotten great reviews but mine are really dry. They were easy to make. I might give them another try."
"Great recipe!! Though I tweaked it to make half the quantity and eggless."
"I always sub something for the sugar. Applesauce is good, or make your own cranberry sauce and the like. Works for me."
"The original name of this recipe was "Peanut Butter Bars." It's been a favorite in our family since it was first published in TOH in 2/96. Don't change a thing; it's perfect as written. My two youngest kids got their fellow high school track team members hooked on them for a couple of years, so I had to make two pans of them every week for awhile. Also, a good bar to grab when you don't have time to eat breakfast."
"Yummy! Added some peanuts to the top for a little more peanut taste. Will definitely make this one again!"
"Very good and very easy. A keeper."
"These are very good and easy to make. I added a heaping 1/2 cup of peanut butter. Mine only needed to bake for 18 minutes and have stayed soft. Next time I might try subbing applesauce for some of the butter."
"Two stars because I expected a lot more from these bars after seeing all the 5 star ratings. Very bland and disappointing. I won't make them again. Must get 5 stars from people who never made a good peanut butter bar recipe and find these to be so good. I'll keep searching for a flavorful peanut butter bar recipe!"
"I made these bars a couple days ago and they are gone and that's with just 2 people eating on them! I added in white chocolate chips, peanut butter chips and toffee bits and they were so dang good and addictive! I have saved this recipe and will be making these forever more. Thank you for this delicious recipe!"
"These bars are OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD DELICIOUS!! I found this recipe online about 2 months ago and have made them 4 times already! Excellent recipe! I've made them for my family and co-workers and they were a hit with ALL!"
"Then family loved these--they were gone in no time! Easy to make too!"
"I really liked these and they were really easy to whip up! The frosting made them extra good!"
"i didn't think there was very much flavor. they are easy though."
"Wonderful!!!!!!! Gone in 5 minutes! My friends loved this, husband too!"
"Everyone loved these bars! I put butterscotch chips on half of the pan since my hubby isn't a chocolate fan. I loved the section in the middle where the butterscotch and chocolate overlapped a little!!"
"These were so good and I did not even do the frosting"
"Just like most of the other post say! Easy and delicious! :-)"
"Good and easy. I didn't read recipe through and added chips to batter. However it turned out okay. I loosened up frosting a bit with cream as it didn't really drizzle. Thanks for this recipe."
"These are excellent!"
"This is a recipe that I have been making for over 50 years. Was my son's favorite recipe. Just wonder how those chocolate chips sprinkled on top made it through baking without melting. Actually, I added mine while hot out of the oven and then spread them over the top before I drizzled the icing on."
"very, very good. I add 1-1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/2 c. chopped walnuts."
"These are very good and soooooo easy to make"
"Perfect every time - love these"
"IIt's true! Guess a young pup can teach an old dog new tricks. We loved this recipe. Thanks for posting."
"Great - and a whole lot easier than cookies. In the oven and done!"
"This might be the best combination of peanut butter/chocolate/oats that we've tasted! Very well-balanced flavor. These remind me of a great chocolate chip cookie, but even better. I plan on making these often, for my family and for friends who just had a baby."
"So yummy! I did cut back a little on the sugars (didn't pack brown sugar, 1/3 C gran. sugar). I used 1/2C whole wheat flour and about 1 1/2 C oats (cut soda in half too). No icing used. This recipe had plenty of choc. chips, may cut those down next time. I even threw in a super ripe banana I had around - you could taste it a little, but family took a while to guess my 'secret ingredient'."
"I am just questioning the yield...- 3-4 dozen out of a 9x13 pan?"
"I have used this recipe and it's wonderful! I DID grease and flour my 13x9x2" baking pan and I also used about 1-1/4 cups confectioners' sugar and about 2 to 4 Tbsp. milk and 2 Tbsp. CREAMY peanut butter for the glaze on these bars! I added just enough sugar and milk to achieve the spreading consistency needed for the glaze used on these bars! I made these again 9/5/14! Whenever I've prepared them before, these bars have been a hit each time! Thank you,Patricia Staudt, for sharing your recipe with TOH! delowenstein"
"Very good bars! Try it with PB Crave peanut butter, it is delicious!"
"These are absolutely delicious! I made them for my bible study group and they were a hit! They are so easy to whip up and require such common household ingredients. A great last minute dessert solution!"
"This is my absolute favorite dessert recipe! I have perfected it and have become famous in my family for my version. Absolutely love these bars and I will make them until the end of time :)"
"I made these and stirred in milk chocolate chips and peanut butter chips and they are awesome. I felt there was no need for the additional calories from the icing, so I left it off. These taste wonderful, and I will make them again and again, yummy!"
"I loved this so much! They were a big hit with my friends. I am not much of a peanut butter person, but these were amazing! Especially since it was mixed with the chocolate. The only thing I would change was the icing. It was a bit too thick to "drizzle", so maybe add a little more milk? But it still tasted just as delicious!"
"I have been looking all over for a recipe like this! They very moist and have the perfect mix of PB and Chocolate. I will definitely make these again."
"I had company over and needed a quick and easy snack. These were great!!! The only problem was that they disappeared too quickly. I will definitely make this again."
"I made these for a Fourth of July celebration potluck and was told by a caterer that I should have my own cooking show on TV. I told him that it wasn't my recipe, but he didn't care. Very easy to make and very good!"
"These bars are so yummy and chewy!! They are like a thick peanut butter chocolate cookie with sweet icing :)"
"These were absolutely delicious! My brothers both said they could've eaten the entire pan! Very easy to make too!"
"These are fabulous. Don't skip the glaze--it's the best part."
"I don't use quick oats. Will Old-Fashioned oats work also?"
"LOVE these! Great to bring to a potluck!"
"Easy, quick and all of family liked this."
"yum yum yum yum yum yuuuuuummmmmmmmmm... u don't even need the icing, they are so good!"
