"Here's a tip I learned to prevent boiled potates from getting like mashed. Add several teaspoons of white vinegar to the water..a couple for a small pot to several for a large batch. Works every time to keep the potatoes from mushing up, no matter what kind of potato you're boiling!....and no, the potatoes don't taste like the vinegar:-)

I did a variation of the ingredients that was really tasty too. Substituted blue cheese dressing for half the mayo and added raisins instead of red peppers."

"I had the same problem. My sweet potatoes were more like mashed. I think this is the kind of recipe where they would say you should not even mix it too much so that the potatoes won't fall apart. It was tasty but I wouldn't try it again."

"My sweet potatoes turned into mashed sweet potatoes. However, the recipe was still tasty!"
