Mom's Fried Apples Recipe

Mom made these for me often while I was growing up. The recipe is very dear to me.—Margie Tappe, Prague, Oklahoma
TOTAL TIME: Prep: 5 min. Cook: 30 min. YIELD:6-8 servings

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, cubed
  • 6 medium unpeeled tart red apples, sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar, divided
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

  • 1. Melt butter in a large skillet. Add apples and 1/2 cup sugar; stir to mix well. Cover and cook over low heat for 20 minutes or until apples are tender, stirring frequently.
  • 2. Add cinnamon and remaining sugar. Cook and stir over medium-high heat for 10 minutes or until apples are tender. Yield: 6-8 servings.

"great tasting and simple preparation -- I left the peels on and it was fantastic. Not sure why you would bother commenting on a dish you took the time to find and then not follow the basic recipe. The best part of it is not having to peel the apples-- you needed someone to tell you to put butter, sugar and cinnamon on apples, but you felt confident in straying with the peeling..."

"I made this for a dessert for our dinner tonight, or so I thought. The guys all used it over their cornbread. It was a hit either way. I made quick time by using my apple corer/peeler/slicer. Thanks for sharing it."
