Marbled Chocolate Peanut Cookies Recipe

This recipe came about by accident when I was making both my husband's favorite peanut butter cookies and my favorite chocolate cookies. I had two small portions of dough left over and decided to combine them into one flavor-filled cookie.
TOTAL TIME: Prep: 20 min. Bake: 15 min./batch YIELD:57 servings

Ingredients

  • PEANUT BUTTER DOUGH:
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1-1/4 cups sugar
  • 1-1/4 cups packed brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped peanuts
  • CHOCOLATE DOUGH:
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup baking cocoa
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips

Directions

  • 1. In a large bowl, cream the butter, peanut butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in peanuts; set aside.
  • 2. For chocolate dough, in another bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla. Combine the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in chocolate chips. Gently fold in peanut butter dough until slightly marbled.
  • 3. Drop by heaping tablespoonfuls 3 in. apart onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 350° for 14-16 minutes or until lightly browned and firm. Remove to wire racks to cool completely. Yield: 9-1/2 dozen.

"I used have shortening like another post did. I guess the cookies did not turn out like I had hoped they would and that was because the two dough's blended together too much and I had very little marble effect. The cookies had no distinct taste of chocolate or peanut butter. I would suggest not mixing the dough's together and taking a small amount of dough from each cookie base and rolling it together to shape the cookie. On the positive side, I will say the cookies are soft. I made two logs out some part of the dough and froze for future use."

"Ohhhh my, these cookies look wonderfully delicious. Have not had pleasure of making them yet, but it's my opinion that since they're from TOH, they would be excellent. Plan on making a batch to give as gifts. Nothin' says *M-M-M* better than peanut butter and chocolate."

"This cookie is very good. I suggest everyone to make it. I did cook it at a different temperature. I cooked at 300 for 21 min. It makes the cookie very chewy and soft. thank you D. Beecher"

"These make a LOT of cookies, but they are very good, I did use 1/2 shortening instead of all butter. I made them for DH's work. I baked 1/2 right away and froze the other half in "rolls" so I have slice and bake cookies."
