I created this side dish to make use of the great maple syrup we have here in Vermont. My family loves this recipe, and it's so easy to prepare.

  • 6 large sweet onions, sliced 1/2 inch thick
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted

Nutritional Facts

1 each: 102 calories, 5g fat (3g saturated fat), 12mg cholesterol, 50mg sodium, 15g carbohydrate (12g sugars, 2g fiber), 1g protein.


  1. Layer onions in a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish. Combine syrup and butter; pour over onions. Bake, uncovered, at 425° for 40-45 minutes or until tender. Yield: 8-10 servings.

"How can anything so simple be sooooooo

good!! Thanks for a great idea! I placed it on top of sweet potatoes, and also on scrambled eggs. I'll bet it's great with ham steaks. Frankly, it's good right out of the pan!!!!"
