Jalapeno Popper Spread Recipe

I've been told by fellow party-goers that this recipe tastes exactly like a jalapeno popper. I like that it can be made without much fuss. —Ariane McAlpine, Penticton, British Columbia
TOTAL TIME: Prep: 10 min. Bake: 25 min. YIELD:16 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/4 cup canned chopped green chilies
  • 1/4 cup canned diced jalapeno peppers
  • 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup panko (Japanese) bread crumbs
  • Sweet red and yellow pepper pieces and corn chips

Directions

  • 1. In a large bowl, beat the first five ingredients until blended; spread into an ungreased 9-in. pie plate. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese; top with bread crumbs. Bake at 400° for 25-30 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve with peppers and chips. Yield: 16 servings.

"This is so good BUT also so high in fat calories. I only take it to large gatherings where no one person is likely to get an overdose of fat for the day. There was absolutely no grease. Maybe you choice of cheese brand??? I did use pepper jack monterey jack cheese. Otherwise as written."

"A friend made this for a work party. I revamped the recipe a little. Got rid of the bread crumbs and parm cheese because they made the top a little crusty and the chips would break when you went in for a dip. doubled the jalapeno (make it a little more spicy) and added about 6 slices of crumbled bacon. there is never any dip left."

"I needed an appetizer that was fast and easy to prepare and would travel well to a holiday party at our neighbor's house. I'm not a huge fan of jalapeno poppers because they can be a little too spicy for my taste but this dip was delicious. My husband didn't care for the panko crumbs and said they were unnecessary but everyone else at the party liked them and I thought the crumbs were a good addition to the dish. I used light mayo and I think a person could use light cream cheese to further reduce the calories. I would have liked to have seen nutritional information with this recipe but...maybe ignorance is bliss in this case. You'll find yourself scooping up the last of this dip before the calorie reality sets in. :)"

"It isn't bad as is but could use some adjustments, imo. Mayonnaise is unnecessary, just ensure cream cheese is very soft. This doesn't yield a party size amount, so if entertaining, double. Much better with fresh jalapenos. I also add bacon, thoroughly drained so not too greasy and scallions. I also season with a little garlic pepper."

I used Sharp Cheddar instead of Monterey Jack (and used more than 1/2 cup in the mixed portion). I also used about 1/2 cup diced jalapeno peppers. Finally, I used 1/2 cup Parmesan and 1/2 cup Sharp Cheddar on top.

"Made this over the weekend and family loved it. Not too spicy, we'd kick it up just a little, but for the timid make it just like it is. I did substitute all cheeses with low fat and it worked for us. Won't be able to rate the diff since we loved the low fat version and probably won't ever try the recipe with anything else. I used 1/2 sour cream and 1/2 mayo because I'm not a huge fan of tasting mayo in a hot dip. I think this recipe lends itself to a lot of personal taste choices, which I think adds to what I consider a 5-star and fabulous recipe! Good job!"

"It's funny to read some of the reviews because I when I read this recipe, I thought the same thing...it's going to be the new buffalo chicken dip.
