Reviews for Italian Sausage with Bow Ties
"I really wasn't that impressed with this. It tasted ok, but I felt like it needed something more. It didn't help that after reheating the leftovers, there was virtually no sauce left. Somehow the noodles had soaked it up during the reheat process (I'm guessing?). Since we enjoy having leftovers for lunches during the week, this is a big negative for us. I probably won't make this again."
"Made this with mild Italian sausage and a 28 oz can of basil infused crushed tomatoes since my husband can't stand chunks of tomato. This was really good and also got rave reviews from my 4 year old son."
"A Big THANK YOU for submitting this recipe. I have been making this dish for years, since it was first published. My family requests it often. I have made it exactly as shown with great results and also have substituted 1/2 and 1/2 for the cream and added 1 to 2 tablespoons of corn starch to thicken it up a bit. When I didn't have the cream. I also add the juice from the tomatoes for a little more sauce. Served with a salad and garlic bread.....YUM!"
"Loved this recipe, and the last time I made it I used chicken instead of Italian sausage. I also used a jar of sun-dried tomates instead of canned tomatoes. Will make this again and again!"
"We loved this. The only thing we did different, was we did not add the red pepper flakes, because half of us in the house do not like spicier things. This is a recipe we'll be having again (and again!)."
"Great flavor to the sauce. Don't need to change a thing, but would probably have great variations too."
"This is the best pasta dish!!! I made it with grounded sweet Italian sausage was delicious. Used crushed tomatoes instead and Italian seasoning... had it with white Portuguese wine, yummy!!! My husband loved it!!! I found this on pinterest and love it!"
"OMG! !! I had sweet Italian sausage in my fridge for the longest. I knew I had to use it soon. Saw this recipe on Pinterest and it looked good and fairly simple to make. I needed the stewed tomatoes. This ingredient is needed because with the sausage its the main components. I put the heavy cream , used Italian seasoning for taste. And, it was the best thing I have made in a long time! !! My belly says, thank you! !!!"
"What can u use instead of stewed tomatoes?"
"My family loved this! Very easy to make - good enough for entertaining."
"This was really good! I didn't have heavy cream so I used half cup whole milk and half cup parmesan cheese.. tasted wonderful."
"Really good. Followed previous reviewers tip of adding spinach which is a brilliant idea, added color and a nice taste. Next time will make more sauce and add more tomato. Would also be nice with some sundried tomatoes."
"easy to make and a big hit with the whole family."
"I add baby bella mushrooms to mind and the kids love it!!!"
"This recipe was delicious! I felt like I was eating off the olive garden menu! Yummy!!! The only thing I did different was leave out the red pepper flakes (don't like spicy) and I used 12 oz of bow tie noodles instead of 16 oz which made it more saucy, which I like!!! We even has leftovers:-)"
"this is relatively regular at our house. I usually opt for the lower fat version of everything and am still satisfied."
"This is very good! With all of that cream, how could it not be! I used ground sausage because I didn't realize until after I made this, that the photo shows link sausage. Nonetheless, it is very tasty. My sauce was a bit too runny, so I did a shaker of milk and flour to thicken it up. Also, don't skimp on the spices as you want a very bold sauce that gets weakened as soon as you toss it with the bland pasta. Bold sauce+bland pasta=perfect balance. I will make this again and again!"
"This recipe is absolutely AMAZING and so easy to make! It's definantly a household favorite. I wouldn't suggest mixing all of the noodles in at once though. I usually only use about half of a package when I make it, the flavor of the meat mixture is just too good to outweigh by the noodles, and I substitute pesto for the basil since I've always got some around. Also, since I have a hard time finding Italian sausage, I just buy a pound of regular pork sausage and add italian seasoning while browning. The flavor is miraculous."
"This is delicious and it is easy to make. A favorite"
"This was excellent, but, I did make a couple of changes to make it a little healthier. Instead of 1-1/2 cups of heavy whipping cream, I only used 1/2 a cup of heavy whipping cream, then added in 1 cup of half and half. I also added in fresh cooked asparagus - it was sooo yummy. thinking of trying it with broccoli as well."
"My family loved this, including my son who "hates everything" except pizza!"
"This was so good! It has a little kick to it so I'm glad I didn't buy the hot sausage. A little messy to make but well worth it!"
"When I started this recipe, I thought I had all the ingredients, as usually happens, I didn't. I only had one can of plain stewed tomatoes, so I added some chopped red and green pepper and tomato sauce and little Italian seasoning. It was still delicious even with the substitutions - my family loved it. I look forward to making it again, with the correct ingredients next time!"
"I made this recipe with tortellini instead of bow ties. It was good but needed more flavor, perhaps spicy Italian sausage, more garlic and more herbs."
"This has become a family favorite. A friend commented that it was just like eating at her favorite Italian restaurant."
"I will make this again. Reminded us of a vodka sauce. Very good."
"We didnt have the bulk sausage so we used links and it was still awesome! YUM!"
"My pasta-loving kids loved this! One recipe made more than 5 servings."
"An absolute favorite at our house. My grown son requests this meal all the time."
"This is hands down my son's favorite recipe. If I ask him what he wants for dinner, this is what he asks for. I cut down on the fat by using part evaporated milk. I usually cook at least 3 batches of the sausage mixture and freeze 2 portions with my food saver. Then it is so quick to mix up the next couple of times I make it. I never drain the tomatoes. I"
"We love this recipe! It is one of my husband's favorite meals. We don't have it very often, so we use all the ingredients, including the cream. Yum!"
"My husband and I love this! It is easy to make and it makes a lot. Much more than 5 portions. We had it left-over today and it was still good."
"I have made this several times and just love it! Since there is just the 2 of us I only make half the recipe. It is sooo good!"
"I have made this several times.I've used kielbasa in place of the Italian sausage and only 12 oz. instead of 16 oz. pasta. It's yummy! -Lori"
"Loved it! Might use slightly less cream next time. And I am sure you could use diced tomatoes instead of stewed."
" This is a favorite in my house. We always have seconds for lunch the next day. I have always made in per the recipe, so they would be bummed if I let out the cream. I used half and half once...."this taste's different this time honey", but I think it would be healthier with our the cream. I usually put less cream than called for (about 1/2) and it turns out great. Made this many times. Will try with the diced tomatoes next time, great idea! "
"I've made this dish twice for my family, without the cream, and they all love it, including me!It's fast, easy and delicious."
"I used Italian-style diced tomatoes and left out the milk entirely. It turned out wonderfully! This is a new favorite at our house."
"Any body tried this with fat-free Half & Half in place of the heavy cream? Would some other low-fat dairy product work?"
"re: sodium count: suggest you check packages of items for sodium content, add numbers up and then divide by number of servings to get approximate count."
"Do you have the sodium count for this dish?"
"Great recipe--fast and tasty! I do not drain the tomatoes."
"Wonderful recipe! It is quick to make and the entire family loves it!"
"I love this recipe. It's quick and simple, not alot of ingredients, thats what I like."
