While my husband was in the Army, I'd get together with other wives for snacks and to exchange favorite recipes. I still enjoy serving this rich spread because most guests can't quite put their finger on the zippy ingredient—horseradish. —Naomi Francis, Waukesha, Wisconsin
Knowing my co-workers are willing guinea pigs, I tried this recipe for an office potluck. When I returned from a break, I found a big frilly blue ribbon on my desk with a note from the boss, saying, "You get a blue ribbon for bringing us a 'slice of heaven'!"

Meet the Cook: Our daughter (we also have a grown son and a grandson) and her husband operate a cookie factory in Hawaii. After she sent a big supply of macadamia nuts, I came up with this cake I make for church dinners and ladies lunches.

"We found this recipe when working on our son Cody's 4-H microwave cooking project," she notes. "We made different versions of this treat 'til Cody decided which one he and his dad liked best. He ended up receiving Reserve Grand Champion for his efforts."
"I wanted to create a recipe that was similar to pumpkin pie, but had a new twist. The macadamia nuts are a family favorite and the praline topping is what makes this pie special and enjoyable."
–Marie Rizzio, Interlochen, Michigan
This recipe was given to me by our pastor's wife. We live on a 65-acre avocado ranch and have many varieties of avocados to choose from. With our children grown and gone, my husband and I keep quite busy ranching.
This is a nuttier version of a basic brittle recipe. I added macadamia nuts - my favorites - and the brittle turned out tastier than ever. I love making this crisp snack because the results are impressive...and the job goes fast using the microwave.
