Cut a very thin slice from bottom of orange and discard. Starting at the top of the orange, use a vegetable peeler or sharp knife to cut a continuous narrow strip of peel in a spiral fashion around the entire orange.
Beginning at the end of the strip where you started, wrap the strip around itself to form a coil. Insert one or two toothpicks horizontally into the base to secure.

We cut lemons, oranges, limes and kumquats into different sizes, finishing off with a lemon rose.
