Making Orange Garnishes
Add a sugary sight to your after-dinner delight by garnishing it with easy-to-fix candied orange peel.
After washing and drying an orange, use a vegetable peeler to remove the peel. On a cutting board, cut away any white membrane and slice the peel into thin strips, about 1 to 2 inches long.
Mix 1-1/2 cups each of sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Add the orange peel; reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and transfer peel to a sieve to drain.
Put a small amount of granulated sugar in a resealable bag and add a few of the orange peel strips. Shake until evenly coated. Remove the peel and place on waxed paper to dry.
Then use these edible embellishments to garnish pieces of Pumpkin Orange Cake (shown above left) or most any fruit dessert.
