There's no better way to ring in the school year than with this adorable school bus. The cake-like formation is an impressive presentation, while the individual cupcakes make for easy serving—perfect for classroom treats! —Taste of Home Food Styling Team
On a covered cake board, begin a row of five cupcakes for the top of the bus. Arrange six cupcakes each in the second and third rows, followed by five cupcakes in the fourth row. (If you want, you can use dark cupcake liners for the second and fourth cupcakes in the bottom row where the wheels will be added. See step 3.)
Tint 2-1/2 cups vanilla frosting yellow; carefully spread over the cupcakes to create the school bus.
Use vanilla frosting to make the bus windows.
For the tires, place chocolate wafers over the second and fourth cupcakes in the bottom row. Attach a miniature sandwich cookie hubcap with frosting to each tire.
Tint a small amount of vanilla frosting black to pipe outlines and other fun details onto the bus.
To make the bus driver and students, place a vanilla wafer in each window. Tint remaining frosting a variety of colors, then have fun piping faces (on the vanilla wafers), hair, hats and shirts—get creative!
Tint a small amount of frosting red, then spread onto cupcakes to make a stop sign and taillights. Fill in the headlights with coarse sugar…and this bus is done and ready to roll!
