Reviews for Hearty Cabbage-Sausage Soup
"Delicious! I did make a few changes though...trying to use up leftovers. I added 2 extra cups of broth, 3 diced potatoes, 1 cup of applesauce, and a Tbls. of parsley. We served it over rice as well. Very good flavor in this recipe."
"Easy recipe and very tasty. I followed other reviewer's advice and grilled the sausage and added carrots and garlic powder. No additional salt was needed. I used chicken & apple sausage that is a little spicy but lower in fat. The extra spice in the sausage kicked it up a notch, especially with the added black pepper. Next time I prepare this recipe, if use this same sausage, I will omit the pepper. It was a little too spicy for some family members, but I loved it!"
"Loved this easy recipe! I added 1 cup frozen corn and five diced potatoes for a more "stew-like" meal. I also omitted adding any additional salt until then end, and just to taste. Thanks for a hearty weeknight soup recipe that can be prepared quickly!"
"5 stars. Have made this numerous times over the years since it was published. Excellent!"
"This was surprisingly tasty for such a simple recipe! I used turkey sausage and added 2 sliced carrots with the cabbage and that added a little sweetness. Also tossed in some red pepper flakes per another reviewer's suggestion and some garlic powder. I only added a 1/2 tsp. salt and I thought I could have added even less--but I think it depends on what kind of broth you're using. Great recipe!"
"I added a little carrot (cooked with cabbage) and doubled the amount of sausage, which I browned first. Needed less salt than the recipe called for, probably because of the extra sausage I added. My family loved it!"
"My family eats lots of soup and your recipe are easy to make and whats better they taste wonderful, keep up the great work"
"Kids and hubby enjoyed this. Very easy to make!"
"<p>I am always hesitant to try new recipes that involve Cabbage (even more so with soups). But this is great! So easy to make, too. I also added just a small pinch of Red Pepper Flakes to add a little more flavor. Definitely a keeper and will make this again.</p>"
"I am going to double the recipe next time."
"Great! Easy, fast and simple. Added 1 lb. of sausage. A keeper."
"My husband and I loved this recipe! We thought it was ever better the next day. We will definitely make this soup again...."
"I have made this soup twice. The first time I was skeptical. We liked it so much we make it again. Very good with crackers. I also used 1 lb. of sausage."
"We love this recipe. I make it with a large head of cabbage and 1 lb of smoked sausage."
"Excellent! Just made it and it is definite keeper!"
"I haven't cooked much with cabbage before, and I wasn't sure how my family would react to this recipe. Amazingly, my kids both devoured it. My 7-year-old had seconds and my 9-year-old even asked for thirds! Great, budget-friendly recipe. Thanks so much."
