 Grilled Five Spice Salmon with Garlic Spinach

  • 1-1/2 teaspoons lime peel zest
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 4 teaspoons minced ginger root
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese 5-spice powder
  • 1/2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt, to taste
  • 1/8 teaspoons black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 lb salmon steaks
  • 1/2 lb fresh baby spinach
  • 2 large garlic cloves, pressed


  • In 2-quart dish, whisk lime peel, lime juice, ginger, 5-spice powder,
  • sugar, salt, pepper, and 1 teaspoon oil.
  • Place salmon on oiled grill.
  • Brush salmon with marinade. Grill for 4 minutes.
  • Turn salmon, brush with marinade, and grill for 4 minutes or until
  • salmon flakes when tested with a fork.
  • Discard the remaining marinade.
  • Serve salmon over bed of warm wilted spinach.

  • Add salmon to marinade. Turn to coat.
  • Cover and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours.
  • In 3-quart microwave safe dish combine spinach, garlic, and remaining
  • 1 teaspoon oil. Toss.
  • Cover and microwave on high (100% power) for 2 minutes or until the
  • spinach has wilted.
  • Drain and keep warm.
  • Brush grill with remaining oil. Preheat grill to medium.
  • Remove salmon from marinade.
  • In a small saucepan, bring remaining marinade to a boil.
