Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1-1/2 cups ketchup
  • 3/4 cup sweet pickle relish
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 8 hamburger buns, split

Nutritional Facts

1 each: 369 calories, 9g fat (3g saturated fat), 38mg cholesterol, 994mg sodium, 57g carbohydrate (30g sugars, 2g fiber), 16g protein .

Directions

  1. In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until the meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in the ketchup, relish and brown sugar; mix well. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until heated through. Spoon onto buns. Yield: 8 servings.
To prevent brown sugar from hardening, store in a resealable plastic bag in a cool dry place. If it does harden, add an apple wedge to the bag until the sugar softens (about 1 to 2 days); discard the apple.

"I really liked it and so did my kids, but my husband would prefer "regular" sloppy joe. I only used 1/2 cup pickle relish and about 1/3 cup brown sugar."

"A little on the sweet side but tasty and easy. I used 1/4 cup barbeque sauce in place of part of the catsup and reduced the relish to 1/2 c. I will probably make this again."

"Only 1 lb. of hamburger to all the rest of the ingredients. Could this possibly be a typo error. 1 lb. would be floating in the sauce. please advice. Yes I would make if corrected."
