Fudgy Walnut Brownies Recipe

We have lots of great cooks in our clan, so adding to our collection of family recipes is a tradition. I came up with these moist nut-covered brownies while doing my Christmas baking. Now everyone requests them.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter, cubed
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • WALNUT CRUNCH TOPPING:
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, cubed
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups chopped walnuts

1 serving (1 each) equals 441 calories, 28 g fat (8 g saturated fat), 98 mg cholesterol, 128 mg sodium, 41 g carbohydrate, 2 g fiber, 10 g protein.

Directions

  1. In a microwave, melt butter and chocolate; stir until smooth. Cool slightly. In a large bowl, beat eggs and sugar; stir in vanilla and chocolate mixture. Stir in flour until well blended. Pour into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan; set aside.
  2. For topping, in a small saucepan, combine brown sugar and butter. Cook and stir over low heat until butter is melted. Stir in the eggs, flour and vanilla until well blended. Stir in nuts.
  3. Spread evenly over brownie batter. Bake at 350° for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with moist crumbs (do not overbake). Cool completely on a wire rack. Yield: 1-1/2 dozen.

made this with pecans instead of walnuts and got rave reviews at our Sunday dessert gathering.

I plan on making a double batch next time I bake these brownies. They were a big hit at home and with my co-workers!
