A tantalizing combination of strawberries and orange juice, this smoothie gets its shake-like texture from low-fat buttermilk. “The recipe also works well with other fresh berries,“ says Helene Rock of Los Altos, California.

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1-1/2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

1 cup: 82 calories, 1g fat (0 saturated fat), 2mg cholesterol, 66mg sodium, 16g carbohydrate (12g sugars, 3g fiber), 3g protein.


  1. Place all ingredients in a blender; cover and process for 1-2 minutes or until smooth. Pour into chilled glasses; serve immediately. Yield: 2 servings.

"This is really yummy! I didn't have buttermilk, so I just used whole milk, which worked well. I added a cup of ice cubes to thicken the smoothie."
