Reviews for Fresh Apple Cake with Caramel Sauce
"batter was very thick...had to spread it out in pan with rubber spatula. But, the cake came out delicious. I used fresh ground nutmeg that I grated. Makes the difference. You will enjoy this apple cake!"
"Made this cake for dinner and my husband and I loved it! I didn't make the caramel sauce but made a glaze instead and it was really good. This recipe is a keeper"
"Very easy and Yummy recipe but would advise leaving out the egg. I had to make two batches because the egg kept cooking on me before just leaving it out. Caramel sauce came out just as good and thick with out the egg :) A definite keeper!"
"Made this cake yesterday. Very tasty. I made it per the recipe with no changes.. Great cake and will make again."
"added 1/2 tsp more cinnamon. Also used half brown sugar and half regular"
"This cake is so moist and delicious. We didn't even make the sauce . it was devoured in one day. The batter is very thick, but it was fine. Can't wait to make this again. It was a big hit."
"What is even better on this cake is Lemon sauce. Just make up box of lemon pudding mix. Great on Apple Cake or Gingerbread."
"Really easy to make, everyone loved it and the caramel sauce goes so good on many things!"
"Made this tonight for a Men's and Women's Fellowship at our Church. It was delicious and the caramel sauce added that special touch to it. Wasn't overly sweet and the cake was very moist. It will be a keeper and be made often."
"Someone asked for an alternate caramel sauce. This one is good. http://www.cookingchanneltv.com/recipes/kelsey-nixon/salted-caramel-sauce.html"
"Very Good! I did not make the caramel sauce. But was good without it. I only gave 4 stars because I made one change, I used 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1/2 cup brown sugar. It took mine almost 45 minutes, but I am in a high altitude. Will make again, soon."
"Fantastic cake and super easy to make. Has become a regular in my house. Sauce good but different."
"We loved the autumn flavor in this moist apple-filled cake. I would definitely make this for our family again."
"If you have a sweet tooth - but still want your fruit too, this is for you. It is quite sweet - but the fresh apples and crunchy walnuts tame it down a bit. You could always omit the caramel sauce - but it is so heavenly with it. Have made it several times - and it is always gone almost immediately. I imagine it would keep well - as it is very moist - but I never have any left."
"My 17-year-old daughter made this while I was out recently and when I came home the entire house smelled wonderful. She had no trouble making this cake or the sauce using the directions given. Because we do not use corn syrup, she substituted pure grade A maple syrup and it was absolutely delicious. I hope she makes this again soon, though if she doesn't I may just resort to baking it myself!"
"The cake was dry and very blah. Also, directions for the caramel sauce are not very detailed. You can not add an egg to a warm mixture without tempering it first."
"Cannot use corn syrup, what can I use instead of. It was great but I probably won't make it again because of the syrup."
"This is delicious. Anytime I've take this cake to a meeting or party I'm always asked for the recipe."
"Loved this dessert! Some confusion with the instructions however. I could not 'POUR' the batter into the baking pan -- it was as thick as cookie dough! SCRAPE dough into baking pan would be more like it."
""Many thanks to Mrs. Karl Zank!" Just made this apple cake and sauce today. Positively delicious! My husband and guests thought I was a genius! The caramel sauce is very rich and creamy so a small piece will suffice. Try it! I think you'll love it!"
