Meet the Cook: There's a bit of my state's history behind these brownies' name and shape. In 1990, when I entered them at our state fair, Kansas was celebrating the 100th birthday of a famous native son...Dwight Eisenhower. In fact, that occasion was the theme of the fair. So I renamed my brownies, which had won the blue ribbon 4 straight years at our county fair, in honor of the rank he'd achieved as a general and cut them out with a star cookie cutter. They ended up winning me another blue ribbon! As a girl, I helped my dad do fieldwork. Now, my husband, our sons and I live on a small farm. -Pam Buerki Rogers, Victoria, Kansas

Of all the brownies that I have tried to make, THESE ARE MY FAVORITE!!! Can you tell that I love them. I will never try another brownie recipe because this one is perfect.

I have been making this recipe for over 15 years. No need for any store bought mixes since these are so easy and by far better. They are so versatile using any add-ins. This is my go-to recipe for any pot luck desert table. This recipe has been shared numerous times.

My husband claims these as **true winners**. He is a history buff ~ enjoys reading about former President Eisenhower.

I've tried many recipes but I always come back to this one.. sometimes I add cream cheese on top and they're yummy. Its number one in my recipe box.

These are very good brownies! I accidentally doubled the butter (I was halving the recipe) but they still turned out good. They were yummy and moist. I want to add chocolate chunks next time.
