Reviews for Family-Favorite Cheeseburger Pasta
"We love this recipe! It's a simple one that can be done on a busy weeknight. I keep everything in the house now so that I can pull it all out & have dinner ready in no time. The only thing I did change was the pasta. Because my husband is diabetic, I use the high protein pastas (the brand I prefer is Barilla in the yellow box)."
"Family loved it!"
"My hubby ate it so it's definitely edible but was just kind of weird and blah. I don't know maybe it's just us but wasn't anything to write home about or adventure into making a second time. Oddly both of my kids liked it even the picky one so that's something. Sorry for the bad review but just my opinion. It does taste like a McDonald's double cheeseburger with pasta if you like those then this is your dish."
"I double this recipe and replace 1/3 of the beef with Bob Evans sausage. Otherwise I followed the recipe as is and the family loved it. It has been added to our list of favorites"
"Super easy to make, but I found it lacking in flavor. Easy dinner for a rushed night, but I probably wouldn't make it agin."
"Made this tonight for a weeknight dinner. I followed recipe as is. It drives me crazy when people review a recipe and change all the ingredients! Why bother? I thought it was really good and so did everyone else in my family except one of my extremely picky eaters. It really did remind me of the flavors of a cheeseburger! Loved the dill pickle relish, mustard, and ketchup in this recipe. It's quick to make which makes it nice for a weeknight. I will make this again."
"Great comfort food supper. I can't stand ketchup, so I left it out. I wondered about the mustard and dill relish, but since I love both mustard and pickles and usually add extra to my burgers, I figured it would work. It DEFINITELY did. I added crumbled bacon for a cheeseburger casserole. Subbed pepper jack cheese for the cheddar for a little kick. This is a repeat meal for me."
"This is good; and quick to prepare! Unfortunately I didn't have steak seasoning, but I can't say it was bad without it. The mustard and the relish add a really nice flavor. I'd probably even add an extra tablespoon of the relish next time."
"It's ok for a quickie meal... but just created, I hardly think so... my Mom was making this over 50 years ago.... my Dad had a nickname for it, not too appetizing to put here though."
"I have been using this very recipe for at least a couple of years now. Very tasty surprise! My seven year old grandson is a very picky eater and when he sat down to the table I could tell he expected this dinner to be awful. He reluctantly took one penne noodle and started chewing. And then without saying a word he finished. everything on his plate and with a big smile asked for a second helping."
"This was very tasty, quick and easy to make. I prepared it for an early dinner tonight and my family enjoyed it. I did use 1-1/2 times the amount of relish, mustard, ketchup, steak seasoning and salt because my family likes a bit more seasoning than was called for in the recipe."
"This is a really easy and budget-friendly dish, as most of the ingredients are staples that everyone probably has in the fridge or pantry. The pasta perfectly captures all of the flavors of a classic cheeseburger."
"It is so yummy. I had 3 guests for dinner plus me and my husband...one is very picky and he gobbled it up, another sd it was amazing, and my dear friend loved it. She said it was so flavorful and asked for the recipe. It is very flavorful and very very easy to make. It will be a repeat go to recipe for me."
"We thought this was just OK. It was quick and easy to prepare, but not really worth repeating. The last three things I've made with 5-star ratings have all been a bit disappointing. I wish people would be a bit tougher with their ratings, so we'd get a better idea of really great recipes."
"My family loves this recipe! We have made it 3 times in the past 2 weeks. Quick, Easy and healthy. What could be better!"
"This is a great recipe that your will children will really enjoy. It is always nice to get dinner on the table relatively quick on those busy nights."
"Great recipe for a busy family!"
"Perfect for one of our weeknight meals."
"really good nice take on a burger."
"Yum! I thought the dill pickle relish was strange, but this dish is so tasty, I will never be skeptical about cooking with pickle relish again!"
"We loved it. It was quick and easy. I did use regular elbow pasta as I didn't have wheat. It was great! Will definitely make again! Thanks for sharing!"
"Fast and easy to make, and tasted just like a cheeseburger!"
"Very good ,easy to make, and my family loved it will make again !!!"
"This is yummy. I have fixed this several times and the only change I make is using whole wheat rotini, instead of the penne. It does taste like a cheeseburger."
"I used elbow macaroni and didn't have dill pickle relish (probably wouldn't have added that anyway), and I thought it was great. It is very similar to a dish my mom used to make except her dish didn't include cheese. Great "comfort food." Will definitely make again."
"Boy, tastes sure do vary! I thought this was pretty good, but then I am a fan of pasta and cheeseburgers, so maybe that's why. I understand that people have differences of opinion and tastes, as we are entitled to. But it's pretty rude to make a comment like "This is awful" or "YUCK" when a simple, "I really didn't like this" would suffice."
"Not fond of the flavor"
"This was a simple and really good dish!! We had one of the grandkids here and there was no leftovers!! Actually, I was hoping for some! Will be making this again."
"This was delicious and so easy to make! I used ground turkey. Also, I added salt to the pasta and salt and pepper to the ground turkey. Since I did not have penne, I used farfalle instead. I will DEFINITELY make again!"
"Excellent. Easy, quick and my entire family loved it. Will definitely make again."
"Nice recipe for something different! Really does taste like a cheeseburger!"
"I made this for dinner last week because it sounded quick. My hubby normally doesn't care too much for anything with pasta in it, but he had three helpings of this, and declared it a keeper! I passed the recipe on to my son and daughter-in-law, who made it for their kids. They all loved it! Definitely a recipe that I will make again and again! Thanks for sharing!---Dutchcook1949"
"Great comfort food! I added some garlic, too. Easy to make and tasted good."
"Was ok....but doubt it'll be a family fave."
"It was very good!"
"I made this last night. When my mother says "this is a keeper", I know it's good and that she will definitely ask for me to make this again. She loved it. I used 2 cups of pasta and one pound of meat, and since I didn't have dill pickle relish in the house, I used one TBS of sweet red pepper relish and one TBS of sweet green relish. We love onions in our house, so 2 TBS was a bit skimpy for us! I chopped half an onion instead. I used regular rotini for pasta, as my mother doesn't care for the wheat pastas. Overall, very yummy!"
"Sorry, this was awful. Followed the recipe to the letter. My kids, who love pasta, said "yuck." Won't make it again."
"This was a very quick and easy weeknight meal. My husband liked it but said he wasn't sure it really tasted like a cheeseburger. The only modifications that I made were I didn't have diced tomatoes so I used spaghetti sauce and I didn't have dill relish or pickles so I used diced bread and butter pickles. Well definitely make again for a weeknight dinner."
"This recipe really does taste like a cheeseburger, but is a bit more healthy. I have made this for my family several times and it is well received. This continues to be a family staple."
"This is so delicious and tastes just like a cheeseburger. I also made extra sauce. Will definitely make again."
"The kids really enjoyed it."
"I can tell how popular a dish is by how many servings my husband eats. (He always praises my cooking, but servings are the true test!) This dish received just one small serving. Looked colorful, smelled good while cooking and the first few bites did actually taste like a cheeseburger. But overall, wasn't our favorite meal and likely won't make again for the family. Maybe needed extra sauce as folks mentioned?"
"This pasta was delicious but I do think extra sauce is needed. So I improvised on the amounts to make it saucy enough my family. They loved it!!"
"My picky husband LOVED this. I made it pretty much to the letter of the recipe... used A-1 for the steak seasoning. Anyway, he went BACK for SECONDS! Posted a picture of my dish on FB and had a dozen hits in 5 minutes how Amazzzzing it looked. Plan on making it again when I have all the grandkiddos here I know they will love it!"
"It was very easy and delicious....hubby really liked it...next time I would add cut up dill pickles instead of the relish"
"It says DILL relish.......not SWEET......may make a BIG difference."
"Very yummy, quick and easy! I increased the recipe just a bit to feed my family of 6. I did not have penne pasta on hand so I used bow-tie which worked great. I also added in some tomato sauce and left out the mustard (because I happen to hate mustard!) I used steak sauce instead of seasoning and used about 1/2 teaspoon of the seasoned salt. I also used about twice as much cheese and also added in two leftover cooked crumbled bacon strips. I had no dill pickle relish on hand so I used about a tablespoon of juice from a jar of dill pickle spears. Family commented that it really did taste like a cheeseburger. Might need some more salt or some seasoning- seemed to be missing a little something. Definitely needed something green on top for some color- kind of has a blah presentation otherwise."
"I made this recipe and I did not like it. Next time I will not add sweet relish. I did not like the relish in the recipe. Yet I love relish on my hot dogs. Any other ideas to add to this recipe?"
"I've been making this for over a year with great results. Everyone loves it and I've given the recipe to dozens of people. One of my tweaks which I didn't see mentioned in the comments is that I use plum tomatoes and salsa in place of the canned tomatoes. Either way, though, it's delicious, and a very easy way to eat healthy because it's just SO good!"
"It really does taste like a cheeseburger!"
"Excellent! This has become a new requested dish by the family."
"I thought iy was very good! I would make it again!"
"We didn't think that this dish was actually going to be any good. It turned out okay and my brother loved it. It tastes very much like a cheeseburger and a little to much like one for my taste. Still, will still make this again."
"I have made this recipe several times and my family loves it!!! It's noting fancy but it's easy and flavorful (the relish, I feel, really makes this dish)!!! I too add a little bit more relish when I make this..."
"PS: I didn't have steak seasoning on hand, so I just used regular steak sauce."
"Great! I changed a couple of things to give it more flavor. Instead of just diced tomatoes, I used diced tomatoes with green chilies. I also added a little more salt and a couple more tablespoons ketchup!"
"My substitutes (because it's what I had on hand): elbow macaroni and 1 T Worcesterchire Sauce instead of steak sauce). My changes: 2 cups of pasta, 1/2 onion and 2/3 c. Costco bacon pieces and 3 T dill relish. Results: two picky kids (4 and 7) who ate their whole meal and a husband who said to put the recipe on our "do again" list. This was great and is bound to become a family classic for us."
"My picky 3 yr old loves this! I make it often she eats it up every time! I use 100% whole wheat pasta to try and boost the fiber."
"i saw this on my mom's desk over Thanksgiving and knew we had to try it. finally worked tonight to make it. i just used regular elbow mac as that is what i had on hand. i also didnt use the seasoning mentioned. i went ahead and doubled it hoping it turned out good so leftovers could be had over the weekend. it definitely tasted like a cheeseburger. i think it could use more condiments though to really make it pop. i like the no salt added tomatoes to keep the salt from being overbearing. will make again, but mayb with some tweaks. had some bites that were kinda blah and some that were delish."
"I have been making this recipe for several months and make it twice a month. It is very simple and flavorful."
"Not a big hit at our house. Made as per recipe, with GF Penne. Easy, but just average for us, sorry. But it did taste like a cheeseburger."
"Didn't add the relish or onion, but a little more mustard & ketchup. Love the flavor!"
"this is sooooo good!!!"
"Love this recipe! I use 2 cups of pasta though, and a full pound of meat. I also use more onion because my family likes it. Great quick and easy dish that uses ingredients that I always have handy! My brother asks me to make it for him all the time!"
"Being a vegeterian, it's not always easy to find recipes that I can modify to use. Bingo - this was one. I use a product called Smart Ground (a soy-based "hamburger" type meat which I substituted for the ground beef. Everything else was as the recipe called for and it was wonderful. This reduces the fat grams to about 2 per serving.."
"My husband thought it was tolerable but not a repeat recipe, I thought it was disgusting. It doesn't taste like a cheeseburger at all."
"I've made this recipe a million times and I will continue to make it! My family loves it :)"
"This was a hit! I really did not think I would like it, but went back for seconds. I too used sweet relish because that is what I had, but it worked. We did not think the mustard was overpowering at all. This has become part of our regular rotation."
"This was pretty good. I doubled the recipe and I used 2lbs of ground beef. Next time I will use the recipe amount. I also used garden penne which was pretty. The mustard was almost overwhelming, I will cut that back next time."
"This was SOOOOO good... even the 10 year old loved it!"
"This was pretty good and SO QUICK and EASY to make!!! I used sweet relish and thought that tasted great, I don't think after using the sweet relish I would use a dill relish."
"This was a great weeknight meal! Quick, easy, and good! I ommitted the onion and relish, and added a little extra ketchup. Will definitely be making again."
"Very good and easy to make. Will cut down on mustard just a bit next time."
"This recipe tasted just like a cheeseburger! My sons (picky) actually liked this recipe and so did my fiance. Recipe was super easy to make, and I also cut the mustard in half, and used sweet relish instead of dill. I paired the recipe with potatoes for the kids ... will definitely make again!"
"Made this with 1 lb ground veinison and rotini pasta. I didn't have any relish, but it was wonderful without it. Easy, colorful and delicious. Mother would have approved!"
"My family has no complaints! All 5 of us absolutely loved it!"
"This actually tasted pretty good! I decided to make it with my kids in mind since it was a bit healthier then other cheeseburger pasta recipes. My husband and I really enjoyed it too. I did not have steak seasoning so I put in some Country Bob's All purpose sauce for steak and beef, and no relish since I had none, and it still tasted great. Next time I make it I'll definitely add the relish."
"My daughter saw this & had been begging to make it, so we did. My kids don't care for diced tomatoes, so I used a small can of tomato paste & added some water. I also added a couple tablespoons of mayo. It was a huge hit!"
"Very good! Used our home grown tomatoes. Would defitely make it again. Followed the recipe but used 1 lbs of beef."
"It was ok. It looked good, smelled good, and tasted fine. I will not be making again because I am looking for GREAT recipes to add to our monthly meals."
"It tasted and smelled just like a cheeseburger!"
"It was okay, but there are too many great recipes out there to repeat one that is just okay."
"I would leave out the pickle and ketsup and then I would think it would do the trick."
"i made this for dinner a few weeks ago and was kind of skeptical about how the flavor would turn out. when i was serving it up my boyfriend and i both thought that it looked bland. when i bit into it, boy was i surprised. it really does taste like a cheeseburger. the pickle relish really comes through as well as the ketchup even though there isn't really too much in it. i did not use mustard for i am a mustard hater but that was the only thing i changed. this was a good recipe and i will make it again but it wasn't amazing but still recieves a thumbs up in my book :)"
"I used whole wheat rotini. I used half the relish it called for, but used sweet relish which is what I had on hand. I only used half the mustard. Before I realized it was Montreal steak seasoning, I added a teaspoon of A1 steak sauce. That was an ok addition, but I think next time I will see how it is without the A1, then add it if I want it.I do think it would be a very kid friendly recipe"
"This was just average to me. I love the fact that it's easy and super quick, and I always have the ingredients on hand, so it will get made again. I just didn't taste the wonderful flavor that everyone else did. I only used 1Tbl of relish (as we don't like it, but def. use it), and 1/2Tbl. mustard. The mustard does have a very strong flavor."
"This has become a regular favorite in our house!"
"I was worried my kids and husband wouldn't go for this... The LOVED it!! I added some Worcestershire sauce and left out the pickle relish, and I halved the mustard like some others had recommended. YUM!!"
"Fantastic! Truly tasted like a cheeseburger. I increased the ground beef to 1 lb. and the penne to 2 cups. Omitted the salt because my tomatoes had salt in them. Loved it!"
"Excellent! My whole family loves it. Will make it again & again."
"This was easy and very good. My friend and husband really enjoyed it."
"I forgot to mention that one and a half cups of the pasta is about 8 ounces and if you double the recipe it's about 16 ounces. Saves measuring time!"
"Very Tasty! I doubled the recipe because there are 6 of us and it got mixed reviews from the kids. The relish and mustard are very strong in this recipe, so if you have anyone in your family that does not like pickles or mustard, serve it on the side and add it at the table...easy fix to suit everyone! I will make this again but with those changes! Thanks for the great recipe! I thought it tasted more like a Burger King cheeseburger! Enjoy!"
"It was alright, but still good!"
"My husband told me that it tasted like a McDonalds Cheeseburger!!! We both loved it. He asked me to make it again soon!"
"I didn't make this for the longest time b/c the ingredients threw me...couldn't figure out how this would be good! But I sucked it up and made it finally.....SOOOO GOOD! My entire family loves it! My neice took it to work for lunch the next day and everyone was asking for the recipe. This is a keeper!"
"My family loves cheeseburger pasta and this recipe is so simple to make, it takes no time at all. This one is definitely a keeper."
"LOVED it! Quick and easy. I took the advice of other reviewers and used only half of the mustard the recipe called for. Everything else was followed to the T. My daughter thought it tasted like a McDonalds cheeseburger, and, after she mentioned it, it kinda did! Served with slices of french bread and it was yummy! A keeper!"
"The kids loved this. I found it a bit odd, but tasty nonetheless."
"I liked it but I wasn't sure if my husband would. As it turned out he loved it!"
"It was very good but I think next time I will add some worcestershire sauce to the meat."
"Was good and my 10 month old loved it, but I added additional cheese, ketchup and relish to suit my tastes. I also didn't use whole wheat pasta. Was super easy to make though and would be great for a busy weeknight. I only used two pots!"
"Everyone should have the makings for this recipe in their pantry. It is wonderful. The pickle relish makes all the difference in the world."
"I really liked this. Used sweet pickle relish but would cut down the mustard next time."
"I used Jenny O turkey and it tasted great! even my young kids liked it."
"Excellent choice,when craving for a hamburger fix!My husband and I enjoyed ."
"We loved it! I did as Sandycod did. I omitted the relish, my children do not care for it, and I cut the mustard to half the amount. It was really easy to make and enjoyable to eat!"
"The whole family enjoyed this tasty recipe and it was so easy to make"
"However, I used broken up angel spaghetti and used less relish and mustard and used dried minced onions and chives and it tasted really good."
"Yummy! Everyone loved this one...I did omit the relish and dropped the mustard in half...wow was it good!"
"An easy, yummy dish that can be made with things already in the kitchen! I used chopped dill pickle as I had no relish. My family enjoyed it."
"Tasty and super easy to make. My kids really enjoyed it. I think 2 TBSP dill pickle relish is way too much! I only used 2 TSP and it was a little overpowering. I would suggest starting with 1 TSP at a time and adjusting accordingly. I also used rotini pasta instead of penne because that's what my kids prefer."
