Easy Ziti Bake Recipe

I enjoy making this dish for family and friends. It's easy to prepare, and I like to get creative with the sauce. For example, sometimes I might add my home-canned tomatoes, mushrooms or vegetables. -Elaine Anderson Aliquippa, Pennsylvania
TOTAL TIME: Prep: 20 min. Bake: 45 min. + standing YIELD:6-8 servings


  • 12 ounces uncooked ziti or small tube pasta
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) spaghetti sauce
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 carton (15 ounces) ricotta cheese
  • 2-1/2 cups (10 ounces) shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese


  • 1. Cook pasta according to package directions.
  • 2. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350°. In a large skillet, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. Stir in spaghetti sauce.
  • 3. In a large bowl, combine eggs, ricotta cheese, 1-1/2 cups mozzarella cheese and the Parmesan cheese. Drain pasta; add to cheese mixture and stir until blended.
  • 4. Spoon a third of the meat sauce into a greased 13x9-in. baking dish; top with half of the pasta mixture. Repeat layers. Top with remaining meat sauce.
  • 5. Cover and bake 40 minutes or until a thermometer reads 160°. Uncover; sprinkle with remaining mozzarella cheese. Bake 5-10 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. Let stand 15 minutes before serving. Yield: 6-8 servings.

"I made this for my monthly bunco group. They all loved it. It was easy to put together and quite tasty. I did use a little more sauce then what was called for, not sure if it helped. I will definitely make this again. Thanks for sharing!"

"Very quick! The only I did was add a can of mushrooms. Never can add too many mushrooms when making food with Italy in the background. Also, next time I make it I would add more sauce. Probably a can of tomato sauce and another can of tomato of some kind."

"Easy and fairly quick...but I do recommend using more than 24oz of spaghetti sauce unless you want this dry! I had to use 48 ozs and it turned out very good! Can't imagine how dry it would have been with only 24ozs."

"Great recipe! Quick! Very Easy! Great for a Pot Luck dinner too! Loved it! However... I could tell from the recipe it would be very bland so I used a ground beef w/higher fat content plus I used ground pork as well, half ground beef-half ground pork! I also cut this in half for 2 people! I also put in fresh garlic and chopped onion when browning the meats. I used Italian seasonings as well that came in a can of Spicy Italian tomatoes! I did not use the "canned" Parmesan cheese! I bought it in a chunk and shredded it my self....that's the only step that took the longest! Plus I put a little red wine in with the sauce mixture! I had most of the extra ingredients all ready on hand! I will definitely make this again! My family and friends loved it!!!"

"I followed this recipe to a "T" the only thing I did differently was season the meat and used ground turkey instead of ground meat. This dish came out very bland and it needed more sauce. I normally cook meatless baked ziti from the TOH Healthy Cooking recipes. I will go back to the meatless recipe it had more flavor."

"Excellent. My family loves it. Very versitle. I used 1.5 pounds of extra lean ground beef cooked with onion and green pepper (put in several slices of pepperoni too). I used the ToH recipe for homemade spagetti sauce that makes 4 cup and used all of it. I used fat free cottage cheese instead of ricotta because I like cottage cheese better. Next time I would put olives in too for my own personal taste.

"Really easy and very tasty. Although I would say the next time I make this I will make these changes; I will make 16 ounces of ziti again, but I plan on using a jar and a half of sauce, and 3 cups of mozzarella cheese, and 22 ounces of ricotta cheese instead of 15. I also plan on adding Tastefully Simple Garlic Bread Seasoning to the mixture. With these slight changes, i am positive the recipe will be PERFECT. This is a fantastic recipe. and I definitely will be making it again . This will now be a part of our regular dinner rotation and also brought to church potlucks."

"I am so glad I picked this recipe to try out! I followed the recipe exactly (except that my ingredients ended up being what the package size was 16 oz pasta, 32 oz sauce, 1.34 lb hamburger). "I prepared it using only 1lb of hamburger and enjoyed it. I rarely put ricotta in my lasagna because my hubby doesn't like a big layer of it. So it was a nice change having it mixed in. "I've made this many times, sometimes using jar sauce and sometimes using homemade sauce; it's great both ways. Much quicker than making lasagna but pretty much the same ingredients. I added provolone cheese in addition to the mozzarella because that's how I make homemade lasagna. Anyone that likes lasagna needs to try this one!"

"This is such a great recipe. Very straightforward to make, easier than lasagne but with all the same delicious textures and flavours, and quicker too as the sauce doesn't need to be simmered for hours. I used a jar of spaghetti sauce with added vegetables in it, and would try it also with a spicier version of spaghetti sauce too. The quantities were just right for my family who aren't keen on gallons of sauce in contrast to the pasta, and we were all delighted with the results."

"This is really a great recipe! The only reason I had it put 4 stars is because the leftovers aren't that great. Maybe it is just my opinion. I did make a couple of changes however. Instead of using 2 pounds of beef, I used 1 pound. Also when I made it, I mixed 2 cups of the mozzarella, eggs, ricotta cheese and pasta and layered ALL of it on the bottom. I then topped it with ALL the meat mixture and sprinkled with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. It is just as good this way and leaves out the extra hassle of layering it. I am only 13 years old- and I found this recipe quick and easy to make!"

"I think this recipe is a solid 4, if you use some of the suggestions from other reviews it can be a 5. I added fennel when cooking the meat, added carrot for extra veggies (my family was none the wiser), and added a can of tomato sauce to the jar that is called for. It turned out great. "I modified this recipe a bit. I like to sneak veggies in for my kids. I used a whole wheat pasta instead. I used 1 lb. ground turkey cooked with some fennel seed (to give it the italien sausage flavor). To substitute the other pound of meat, I used shredded carrot, finely chopped green pepper and chopped onion. So I cooked the meat and veggies together before I added it to the sauce. Turned out great!"
